About OpenEd

At OpenEd, we’re opening the world to every learner. With over 100,000 students served and growing rapidly, families trust us as a partner to the most precious thing in their lives, their children. Our vision: a future where education is no longer constrained by geography, rigid models, or outdated systems. Our mission: to give every student customized, world-class education and resources, empowering families and opening millions of doors for learners across the country.

Our Culture (The Foundation of Everything We Do)

Culture at OpenEd is intentional. It’s defined by what we promote-and what we tolerate. Our latest eNPS (employee net promoter score) of 76 places OpenEd in the top .1% of technology companies. Our values aren't just words; they are non-negotiable principles that guide every decision:

  • Customer First - Obsessed with delivering value; we fight tirelessly for our learners and families.

  • Hard Choices, Easy Life - Face challenges directly, swiftly, and transparently.

  • I Did > We Should - Action over theory; bring experiments, not just opinions.

  • Learn Out Loud - Share your growth openly; feedback is a gift, ego is the enemy.

  • Prioritize Ruthlessly - Excellence in the few critical areas over mediocrity everywhere.

  • Fast AND World Class - Speed doesn’t compromise quality.

Are you a Washington-certified teacher interested in an engaging, flexible, work-from-home opportunity? OpenEd, a student-centered, online personalized education program, is accepting applications for part-time teachers to support students and families through personalized learning.

What sets the Washington Role Apart?

Washington OpenEd Teachers focus on deep, individualized student support, helping students set and work toward personal learning goals while closely monitoring their progress throughout the year. You'll prepare monthly progress reports for families, review and grade student learning logs, and track participation in designated subject areas. If you're certified in multiple states and weighing your options, choose Washington if you prefer a role built around mentorship and progress monitoring over daily live instruction.

Your Role

OpenEd Teachers play a key role in supporting students through their educational journey. You'll work closely with students and families to provide encouragement, accountability, and individualized support, helping students stay engaged, on track, and connected to their learning experience.

All OpenEd Teachers share the same core role regardless of certification or endorsement area. Assignments are based on student and program needs and won't always align with your specific endorsement. You may also take on additional responsibilities, such as tutoring or small-group instruction, based on program needs.

Expect regular synchronous work with students, ongoing communication with families, active support of individualized learning goals, and consistent monitoring of student participation and progress.

This is a non-traditional teaching role that emphasizes mentorship, flexibility, personalized support, and ongoing student engagement rather than a single classroom or fixed course load.

    • Provide weekly accountability and encouragement for students

    • Identify at-risk students and coordinate appropriate routes to intervention

    • Communicate with parents to provide guidance and support

    • Attend IEP meetings as needed and collaborate with relevant stakeholders

    • Collaborate with other teachers to share expertise and support students across the program

    • Complete additional grading and instructional responsibilities, as applicable

  • Program & Team Contribution

    • Support a core group of assigned students through ongoing mentorship and learning log responsibilities, while also contributing to additional assignments across the program based on team and student needs

    • Participate in a positive, collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on student success
