Learn about OpenGov’s mission to power more effective and accountable government and the vision of high-performance government for every community at OpenGov.com.\nAbout the Role\nOpenGov is seeking a Product Engineer to own key foundational areas of our Public Service Platform, leading cross-functional efforts, executing discovery, and driving delivery from spec through launch. These service areas include our Identity and Access Management capabilities, powering secure access for government users, public users, and internal staff. This is the career-level role: someone who operates independently, communicates proactively, and takes clear accountability for product outcomes while leveraging AI-native tooling for execution.\nHow AI Works in This Role\nAI-native tooling handles a significant portion of what product managers and UX designers have historically spent their time on. That time is yours to redirect toward higher-leverage work. Specifically:\nSpec writing: AI drafts the first spec from your intent statement. You review, sharpen, and own what gets built.\n\nUX design: AI generates mockups from the design system based on your flow definitions. Experience Architects maintain the system itself. You make the product decisions within it.\n\nShipping code: AI helps you ship features alongside engineering counterparts, this is no longer a handoff but now a process where everyone ships.\n\nResearch synthesis: AI clusters and themes interview notes, call transcripts, and support data. You interpret what it means for the roadmap and make the call.\n\nRelease content: AI generates release notes, in-app announcements, and enablement materials from your shipped features.\n\nCode review: Automated review catches style, security, and regression issues. You stay accountable for quality outcomes - not the review queue.\n\nTest coverage: AI generates test cases from the acceptance criteria you write. Your job is to write criteria that are precise enough to verify.\n\nCompetitive intelligence: AI monitors competitor moves and surfaces market signals. You form the point of view and decide what it means for your roadmap.\n\nWhat AI does not do: understand your customers, make the call on what matters, own the outcome, or build the cross-functional trust that makes things ship. That is the job.\nWhat You'll Own\nDefine and communicate the product vision for your area - grounded in customer research, competitive context, and business goals; not inherited from a committee.\n\nConduct and synthesize customer discovery: translate what you hear into clear, defensible decisions about what to build and what to cut.\n\nOwn the product roadmap: prioritize ruthlessly, explain your reasoning publicly, and revise it when new facts warrant it.\n\nShipping code to production: you have the agency to ship code all the way to production, not just creating prototypes.\n\nDefine user experience flows and interaction patterns within the design system; escalate to Experience Architects when genuinely new system-level patterns are required.\n\nWrite clear intent documents that AI tooling can execute against; review and own AI-generated specs for accuracy, completeness, and correctness.\n\nPartner with engineering to unblock builds, resolve ambiguity in real time, and make decisions during the development cycle without becoming a bottleneck.\n\nTrack adoption, usage, and business outcome metrics; use them to drive the next iteration, not just to report status.\n\nRepresent your product in customer conversations, QBRs, and cross-functional reviews - the full commercial picture, not just the feature set.\n\nIdentify gaps in AI harnesses and design system coverage; surface them as platform investment requests with clear business justification.\n\nQualifications & Preferred Experience\n4-6 years of experience in product management, UX design, or a closely adjacent role, with a demonstrated track record of shipping products customers use.\n\nDemonstrated experience building and implementing Access Control systems at scale, including working with internal stakeholders to onboard new products.\n\nAbility to conduct and synthesize customer discovery and translate findings into prioritized roadmap decisions.\n\nProactively identifies challenges and communicates issues early; strong written and verbal skills.\n\nConnects different functional areas and understands their interdependencies within the broader organization.\n\nComfortable defining user experience flows and working within a design system.\n\nProficient or actively developing proficiency in AI-native workflows.\n\nSaaS product experience required; B2G background welcome.\n\nWhy OpenGov?\nA Mission That Matters.\nAt OpenGov, public service is personal.
