We turn deep research into reliable, full-stack systems that drive discoveries in fields like medicine, energy, and technology, reshaping how the world computes.\nJoin the team that gives quantum a heartbeat.\nThe work\nWe are looking for a Quantum Engineer (Junior to Senior level) with an experimental background to join our Calibration and Benchmarking team, focusing on improving the performance of superconducting Quantum Processing Units (QPUs).\nIn this role, you will work hands-on with quantum hardware to develop, optimize, and execute calibration and benchmarking protocols. Your work will directly influence QPU performance by identifying bottlenecks, improving calibration strategies, and providing critical feedback to design, simulation, and fabrication teams.\nYou will play a key role in validating new QPU architectures and supporting IQM's roadmap toward high-performance and scalable quantum computing systems.\nWhat you’ll actually do\nPerform calibration and benchmarking on latest-generation QPUs.\n\nDevelop and improve calibration protocols and optimization strategies for large-scale processors.\n\nAnalyze experimental data to identify performance bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.\n\nPerform measurements across multiple iterations of superconducting qubit devices and provide feedback to design, simulation, and fabrication teams.\n\nContribute to system-level optimization, balancing performance and efficiency.\n\nProvide input to the development of calibration software and automated QPU tune-up frameworks.\n\nSupport QPU calibration, validation, and preparation for deployment.\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and system engineering.\n\n(Senior level) Mentor junior team members and contribute to cross-team technical development initiatives.\n\nWhat we're looking for\nJunior Quantum Engineer\nM.Sc. degree in Physics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field.\n\nQuantum Engineer\nPh.D. degree in Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent experience in quantum technologies.\n\nSenior Quantum Engineer\nPostdoctoral research experience or equivalent industrial experience in quantum technologies.\n\nIn addition, we're looking for candidates with:\nStrong understanding of quantum mechanics and quantum computing principles.\n\nExperience with Python programming and scientific data analysis.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\n\nAttention to detail and the ability to work with complex experimental data.\n\nAbility to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.\n\nNice to have\nExperimental experience with superconducting qubits and calibration techniques.\n\nFamiliarity with optimization algorithms and techniques.\n\nExperience working with experimental quantum hardware or calibration workflows.\n\nWhat kind of person will thrive in this role?\nCurious and motivated to improve quantum hardware performance\n\nHands-on and comfortable working with experimental systems\n\nCollaborative and able to communicate across teams\n\nDetail-oriented with strong analytical thinking\n\nAmbitious about contributing to large-scale quantum computing systems\n\nWhy IQM?\nFull-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.\n\nHigh-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too-hybrid setups, flexible hours.\n\nNever the smartest: Expect to learn constantly.
