Working alongside physicists and specialist engineers, you will help develop a reliable measurement service for teams designing and manufacturing components for IQM’s quantum computers.\nYour duties will combine practical laboratory work with developing new measurement capabilities. From installing a device in a cryostat to automating measurements and investigating unexpected results, you will help make experiments more repeatable, reliable and easier to interpret. You will work with experienced colleagues who can support your development while giving you responsibility for your own experiments and designs.\nWhat you’ll actually do\nPlan, design and assemble cryogenic experiments\n\nInstall devices in cryostats, carry out cooldowns and run electrical measurements.\n\nSet up measurement instruments and electronics racks, and develop scripts for automated data acquisition and analysis.\n\nDiagnose experimental problems, investigate measurement results and document common failure cases.\n\nDevelop standard measurement procedures to serve fabrication and packaging teams.\n\nContribute mechanical and electrical designs, working with colleagues to have them manufactured, assembled and tested.\n\nHelp keep the laboratory organised, with clear documentation and well maintained tools, equipment and supplies.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\nAn MSc of PhD in physics or a related field, or equivalent practical expertise.\n\nPractical experience planning and setting up experiments in a cryostat, including installing devices and assembling the experimental setup.\n\nExperience working with cryogenic systems reaching approximately 4 K or below.\n\nA sound understanding of experimental physics and low temperature instrumentation, including vacuum systems.\n\nExperience with precision DC or microwave measurements, and the ability to reason about measurement quality and troubleshoot problems.\n\nAn understanding of basic mechanical design and how to translate experimental requirements into a practical assembly.\n\nThe ability to solve problems independently, seek support when needed and document your work clearly.\n\nWhy IQM?\nFull-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.\n\nHigh-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too-hybrid setups, flexible hours.\n\nNever the smartest: You won’t always be the smartest person in the room.
