Your work will make sure compute-heavy quantum workloads can run reliably, scale efficiently, and recover gracefully when things go wrong.\nYou’ll work across Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, bare-metal systems, networking, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure as code - seeing how these pieces fit together as one platform rather than as isolated systems.\nThis is a role with real technical ownership. You’ll make and document infrastructure decisions, balance reliability, performance, cost and complexity, and help shape how the platform evolves as it grows. You’ll work closely with teams across Algorithms, Software, Product, Quantum Enablement, and Cloud.\nWhat you’ll actually do\nDesign, build, and maintain infrastructure for compute-heavy, job-driven workloads using Kubernetes, cloud and bare-metal environments.\n\nOwn and evolve key infrastructure areas such as orchestration, CI/CD, observability, networking, and cloud architecture.\n\nBuild reliable systems for variable and bursty workloads, including autoscaling, redundancy, recovery, and graceful failure handling.\n\nImprove infrastructure security, monitoring, deployment and incident-response practices, reducing operational risk before issues occur.\n\nUse Terraform and other infrastructure-as-code tools to create maintainable, scalable infrastructure and establish good engineering standards.\n\nMake and document technical decisions, balancing cost, performance, reliability, complexity, and long-term maintainability.\n\nMentor other engineers and contribute to technical discussions, reviews, documentation, and infrastructure best practices.\n\nWhat we’re looking for\n7+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, SRE, platform engineering, or a closely related field.\n\nStrong, hands-on Kubernetes experience, including setup, maintenance, scaling, and troubleshooting.\n\nHands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform or OpenTofu.\n\nStrong scripting skills in Python and Bash, with at least 2 years of practical experience.\n\nAt least 2 years of experience managing bare-metal machines in remote data centres.\n\nSolid understanding of network setup and management.\n\nHands-on experience with a major cloud provider, particularly AWS or GCP.\n\nA systems mindset and the ability to make and explain technical decisions, understand trade-offs, and take ownership of the outcomes.\n\nStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nBonus points if you have:\nHands-on experience with Ansible.\n\nExperience with Argo Workflows or Argo Events.\n\nExperience operating compute-intensive or distributed workloads.\n\nExperience with reliability engineering, SLOs/SLIs, incident response, or infrastructure cost optimisation.\n\nExperience mentoring engineers or setting technical standards within a team.\n\nWhy IQM?\nFull-stack quantum computing: From quantum hardware to software layers and beyond, we build across the full-stack.\n\nHigh-performance playground: We aim high, and we know sustainable performance only works when life outside work does too-hybrid setups, flexible hours.\n\nNever the smartest: You won’t always be the smartest person in the room.
