We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Maintenance team. Based primarily at our Accelerator Building Waterloo location, this role will serve as the frontline maintenance resource for the site while supporting the broader maintenance team at OpenText Waterloo headquarters.\nThis position focuses on preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, strong knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and ensuring a safe, reliable, and well-maintained workplace environment.\nWHAT THE ROLE OFFERS\nPerform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs across building systems, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.\nConduct routine building and site inspections, identify maintenance deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions to address operational and safety concerns.\nComplete a wide range of general maintenance tasks, including carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, doors, locks, ceiling systems, and minor plumbing and electrical repairs.\nSupport HVAC, mechanical, and Building Automation Systems (BAS) through monitoring, troubleshooting, inspections, filter changes, and preventative maintenance activities.\nRespond promptly to service requests and work orders, delivering high-quality customer service and timely issue resolution.\nMaintain exterior property areas including grounds, parking lots, walkways, landscaping, loading docks, signage, and seasonal snow and ice management activities.\nSupport Fire & Life Safety programs, office moves, furniture installations, space reconfigurations, and other workplace improvement initiatives.\nCoordinate and oversee contractors and vendors, ensuring maintenance, repair, and construction activities are completed safely and in accordance with company standards.\nMaintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, inventory levels, and documentation while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, training requirements, and operational procedures.\nDemonstrate ownership and accountability for assigned facilities by proactively identifying risks, recommending long-term solutions, supporting sustainability initiatives, and responding to emergency or after-hours facility incidents as required.\nWHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED\n3-5 years of experience in building maintenance, facility operations, or a related field.\nStrong knowledge of mechanical (HVAC), electrical, plumbing, and general building systems.\nAbility to troubleshoot and complete repairs independently.\nExperience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.\nStrong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors.\nStrong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.\nAbility to travel between OpenText facilities and transport maintenance materials as required\nValid G driver's license with a clean driving record.\nBasic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and work order systems\nCertification in Building Environmental Systems (BES), Building Operator Certification (BOC), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), or a related trade certification is considered an asset.\nWHMIS, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, and other relevant health and safety certifications are also considered assets.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.\nAbility to climb ladders and work at heights.\nAbility to perform physically demanding maintenance activities.\nOne Last Thing\nOpenText is more than just a corporation, it's a global community where trust is foundational, the bar is raised, and outcomes are owned.\nJoin us on our mission to drive positive change through privacy, technology, and collaboration.
