This employee will use ophthalmic techniques to perform preliminary work-up of patients in a clinic setting, scribe for Physicians and may also directly assist Physician(s) with examinations and treatment of patients.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES \nProvide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)\nDisplay a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave\nAnticipate Physician needs to facilitate the flow of the clinic\nPractice urgency at all times with patient’s time, as well as the Doctor’s time and schedule\nComply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA\nVerify patient’s information by interviewing patient\nRecord patient’s medical history and current medications and confirm purpose of visit\nRecord all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)\nCheck condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity and extraocular movements\nRequired skills include: dilation, refraction, pressures, and performing a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor and topography\nDemonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications\nAccurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the Physician\nDemonstrates basic understanding of examination and procedure codes (ICD-9 codes) when inputting into the EMR system\nEnsure that accurate procedure coding/charges for all procedures/drugs for all patients and correct diagnosis codes are used\nPrepare patients for treatments and minor procedures; measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse and respiration rate) as required\nOpen and close exam rooms as needed\nKeep examination, treatment, laser and any other assigned rooms cleaned and stocked with supplies, and keep drug count up to date\nGeneral office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager\nQUALIFICATIONS\nDesire to gain industry knowledge and training\nDemonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals\nAbility to grow, adapt, and accept change\nConsistently creates a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused\nAbility to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times\nCommitment to work over 40 hours to meet the needs of the business\nAbility to work weekends when applicable\nReliable transportation that would allow employee to go to multiple work locations with minimal notice\nEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE \nHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) required\nHands-on patient care experience is required!\nMinimum of one year of experience working as an Ophthalmology Technician in general ophthalmology and/or retina is preferred\n\nPhlebotomy experience is preferred\nLICENSES AND CREDENTIALS \nCurrent Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred, but not required\nOphthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification is preferred, but not required\nPhlebotomy license is preferred, but not required\nSYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY \nRequires proficient keyboarding skills, use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system\nProficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook\nComputer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nThis role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25-50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity - including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus - is required 100% of the time.
