Your primary objective is to develop robust engineering solutions that ensure the integrity, performance, and long-term reliability of the complete fiber-optic link connecting the underwater sensing system to the dry-end processing unit.\nThe cabling infrastructure subsystem comprises the complete optical path from the hydrophone interfaces and subsea junction box through the long-haul subsea cable to the dry-end interface, including optical connectors, splices, strain relief systems, cable protection, and mechanical interfaces. You translate allocated product and subsystem requirements into technical solutions that support reliable optical performance, manufacturability, offshore installation, and long-term subsea operation.\nYou work closely with Product System Engineering, Product Integration, Verification & Validation, Lifecycle Engineering, manufacturing partners, and specialized suppliers to ensure the subsystem is successfully developed and realized as part of the overall product.\nWhat you'll do:\nOwn the development of the OptiBarrier fiber-optic cabling infrastructure throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to deployment.\n\nDesign robust subsea fiber-optic cable solutions, including cable routing, connectors, splices, junction box interfaces, strain relief systems, and mechanical interfaces.\n\nTranslate product requirements into reliable subsystem designs that meet optical, mechanical, environmental, installation, and lifecycle requirements.\n\nDevelop prototypes, perform testing, and analyze optical and mechanical performance to continuously improve reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.\n\nWork closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve interface challenges and support system integration, verification, validation, and industrialization activities.\n\nSupport offshore deployments and contribute to the design of cable handling, storage, and deployment solutions for long-haul subsea applications.\n\nPerform engineering trade-off studies, identify technical risks, investigate root causes, and implement design improvements to increase product robustness.\n\nCollaborate with external suppliers and technical partners on subsea cabling, optical connectors, and related components.\n\nCreate and maintain technical documentation, specifications, interface definitions, and engineering reports.\n\nContribute to a collaborative engineering culture by sharing knowledge, supporting technical decision-making, and continuously improving engineering processes.\n\nWhy Join Us?\nJoin one of Europe’s most promising deep-tech scale-ups.\n\nShape the future of a rapidly growing multidisciplinary R&D organization.\n\nCompetitive salary and benefits package.\n\nEnjoy regular team activities and company events.\n\nFresh team lunches provided 5 times/ week.\n\nRequirements\nQualifications:\nBSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Marine Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.\n\nMinimum 5 years of experience developing complex fiber-optic, electro-mechanical, marine, or subsea systems.\n\nExperience with fiber-optic cabling, optical connectors, optical communication systems, or subsea cable infrastructure.\n\nExperience designing cable routing, strain relief systems, mechanical protection, or offshore cable solutions.\n\nProficiency in working with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD systems to develop and review mechanical designs, assemblies, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.\n\nUnderstanding of optical attenuation, optical power budgets, connector technologies, and optical link performance.\n\nExperience working within multidisciplinary product development teams.\n\nExperience working with external suppliers and leading technical discussions with vendors.\n\nStrong analytical and structured engineering problem-solving skills.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English.\n\nEligible to obtain EU/NATO security clearance.\n\nNice to have:\nExperience with offshore, naval, or subsea engineering projects.\n\nKnowledge of subsea cable installation, deployment, cable burial, and long-term offshore operation.\n\nExperience acting as a Subsystem Lead or technical lead within multidisciplinary engineering projects.\n\nHands-on experience with SolidWorks for mechanical design, assembly modelling, and detailed production drawings.\n\nFamiliarity with systems engineering, product lifecycle management, verification, and configuration management.\n\nExperience with reliability engineering or offshore qualification standards.\n\nSecurity & Compliance:\nYou'll be working with clients in the defense and security sectors, obtaining a Certificate of No Objection issued by the AIVD (Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will need to undergo a security screening. For more information, please refer to details on security screening.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5038,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"Dutch","level":"All levels","optional":false},{"language":"English","level":"All levels","optional":false}]},"benefits":["Company events"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Telecom Infrastructure","Telecommunications","C4ISR","Broadband"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-30T15:27:20Z"}],"liveness":{"score":19,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.524,"p_room":0.36,"age_days":79,"expected_fill_days":42,"reasons":["conf:0","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T04:23:33Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/optics11-cabling-development-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/optics11-cabling-development-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T04:23:33Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3704,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1296,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
