This role is responsible for assessing the feasibility of final and interim metrology needs in relation to the manufacturing process and final product requirements. The engineer will interface directly with customers, internal engineers, quality c6ntrol, and technicians to meet and document part specifications based on customer prints and optical standards.\nThrough On the Job Training (OJT), the Metrology Engineer will:\nAssess feasibility of metrology needs for complex manufacturing processes.\nInterface with customers and internal teams to define and document specification\nSet up and operate advanced optical metrology instruments, includingFizeau, White Light, and Stitching interferometers\nOptical Profilometers and Autocollimators\n\nApply knowledge of Optical test setups (e.g., Ball Test), TWE, and CGH.\nPerform Uncertainty Analysis (e.g., GUM) and develop Error Budgets.\nAnalyze data using PSD, Fourier, MSF, and Slope analysis.\nUtilize contact profilometers (e.g., CMM, AFM) and design metrological fixturing\nInspect and document in-process optics for conformance to mechanical and optical drawings (ISO 10110).\nAdvancement through the Metrology Engineer ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.\nEducation Requirements:\nBS, MS, or PhD required in Optical Science & Engineering or Optomechanics.\nMinimum Requirements:\nHands-on proficiency with common optical metrology instruments.\nFundamental knowledge in an applied manufacturing setting regarding tolerancing and statistics.\nProficient in Design of Experiments (DOE) and Round Robins.\nCapability to perform Uncertainty Analysis and Error Budgeting.\nExcellent communication skills for interfacing with customers and technical teams.\nAnalytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.\nCapable of understanding and interpreting blueprints for both mechanical and optical standards (ISO 10110).\nDesired Software Skills:\nZemax / Code V\nMx, QED\nMatlab\nSolidworks\nAnsys\nCalypso\nOther Skills and Experience:\nStrong understanding of the relationship between metrology and manufacture in optics.\nStrong multi-tasking skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment\nProficiency in data types, sampling, filtering, fitting, and interpolation.\nInitiative and mental concentration to learn new complex techniques.\nWork Requirements:\nPhysical Demands:\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.\nThe job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.\nSpecific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. \nRequires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.\nWork Environment:\nThis position works in a manufacturing environment.
