Provides strategic security guidance (encryption, access controls), oversees remediation and compliance documentation, and sponsors automation (IaC) and change-management alignment so systems can be safely patched, updated, and rolled back at scale.\nAbout the Team & Organization\nOracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Director, Core Infrastructure to lead engineering within the OCI Infrastructure Planning and Capacity Management organization.\nThe OCI Infrastructure Planning and Capacity Management team builds software solutions that improve how OCI manages infrastructure capacity, sources resources, and plans for future demand. Our work spans planning and forecasting services, infrastructure sourcing workflows, process automation, data integration, and operational reporting. We focus on improving decision quality, increasing operational visibility, and reducing manual effort across engineering, operations, supply chain, and finance.\nIn this role, you will lead engineering strategy, execution, and operational excellence for systems supporting infrastructure capacity management, sourcing, and demand planning. You will build and develop a high-performing engineering organization, establish technical priorities and engineering standards, and ensure delivery aligns with business objectives and operational needs.\nYou will oversee the development of new capabilities and improvements to existing systems, guiding architectural direction, organizational execution, and operational performance. Working closely with engineering, operations, finance, and business stakeholders, you will drive cross-functional alignment, resolve complex dependencies, and ensure the organization delivers reliable, scalable solutions that support OCI's infrastructure planning and capacity management needs.\n Key Responsibilities\nSystem Design & Architecture - System Scalability:\nImplements strategies across multiple teams or groups for the architecture and design of interdependent scalable distributed systems, including the use of distributed state management tools, ensuring organizational and system demands are met.\nSpearheads code and/or system optimization initiatives for large-scale data processing and high-throughput requirements across multiple areas, driving improvements that support hyper-scale systems.\nFacilitates collaborations to define system scalability requirements, ensuring the defined requirements meet customer expectations.\nOversees the design of interdependent systems to scale with elasticity (e.g., effectively scaling both up and down).\nDrives the effective use and implementation of data plane platforms for large-scale data operations.\nSystem Design & Architecture - System Reliability Design:\nProvides strategic oversight for the architecture of fault-tolerant interdependent systems capable of withstanding in-service updates by overseeing implementation across teams of redundancy, replication, and automatic failover mechanisms.\nInfluences and sets direction for designing systems to effectively handle service disruptions (e.g., network partitions) by prioritizing consistency, availability, or partition tolerance.\nLeads strategic optimization initiatives for handling network unreliability, including directing the design of load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting techniques.\nHolds teams accountable for leveraging formal verification techniques to verify system designs and conduct peer reviews across teams.\nDrives the design of systems that are durable and adhere to service level objectives (SLOs), developing standards for availability and durability of other computing services across the department.\nSystem Design & Architecture - System Reliability Performance:\nDrives strategies for defining key performance indicators (KPIs) and telemetry to identify risks, gaps, or cyclical dependencies in running systems, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.\nDirects the creation and customization of complex dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms that proactively monitor and ensure optimal system health across teams.\nSystem Design & Architecture - Correctness / Availability:\nImplements strategies to effectively determine if systems are meeting functional and correctness requirements, and encourages teams to identify improvement opportunities.\nProvides thought leadership on processes for formally verifying complex features to ensure system design correctness.\nOversees the implementation of data replication and synchronization techniques, ensuring data integrity and availability across the organization.\nOperational Troubleshooting & Incident Management:\nProvides strategic oversight for diagnosing, debugging, and resolving issues in active systems to support ongoing operation.\nDirects strategies within teams to prevent interruptions, ensuring no maintenance windows are required for customers and users when resolving issues.\nDrives alignment across teams for operational readiness protocol and standard operating procedures.\nProvides expert guidance for complex incident response and root cause investigations.\nCompliance & Security:\nProvides strategic guidance in architecting robust security measures to protect data and applications in multi-tenant environments, ensuring encryption techniques and access controls are implemented.\nOversees execution of remediation plans to address identified security gaps, promoting significant improvements and continuous advancement of security measures.\nDrives documentation efforts and ensures cloud infrastructure compliance with industry standards and regulations.\nAutomation & Change Management:\nProvides strategic guidance across teams on developing and maintaining automation scripts and tools (e.g., Infrastructure as Code (IaC)) to manage cloud infrastructure.\nDrives strategic alignment of change management plans for patching, updating, and rolling back applications, and oversees that system designs allow for automation of these processes.\nOrg-Specific Minimum Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.\n10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure or enterprise technology.\n5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including experience managing engineering managers and senior technical leaders.\nDemonstrated track record leading engineering organizations responsible for mission-critical software systems, infrastructure platforms, or cloud services.\nExperience defining and executing engineering strategy, technical roadmaps, organizational priorities, and operating plans.\nProven ability to lead complex engineering initiatives involving multiple teams, technical dependencies, and cross-functional stakeholders.\nStrong technical judgment, including the ability to evaluate architecture decisions, engineering tradeoffs, system scalability, and operational reliability.\nExperience establishing engineering standards, operational processes, and delivery practices that improve organizational execution and service quality.\nDemonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and lead engineering managers and technical talent while building effective organizational structures and leadership capabilities.\nExperience collaborating across engineering, operations, finance, and business organizations to align technology investments and delivery priorities with business needs.\nStrong operational leadership skills, including experience overseeing production systems, managing technical risks, and driving continuous improvement.\nExcellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills, including the ability to communicate technical strategy, progress, risks, and investment tradeoffs.\nOrg-Specific Preferred Qualifications:\nEngineering leadership experience within a hyperscale cloud infrastructure organization.\nFamiliarity with infrastructure capacity planning, demand forecasting, fleet management, hardware lifecycle management, or data center operations.\nExperience leading engineering teams responsible for supply chain systems, infrastructure sourcing, procurement planning, or deployment operations.\nExperience developing or managing software platforms that support large-scale operational planning and data-driven decision-making.\nKnowledge of FinOps, CloudOps, operational analytics, infrastructure economics, or cloud resource optimization.\nExperience leading modernization, automation, or scalability initiatives for complex enterprise or cloud infrastructure systems.\nFamiliarity with distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and large-scale data integration platforms.\nDisclaimer:Certain U.S. based or U.S. customer or client-facing roles may be required to comply with applicable requirements, such as immunization/occupational health mandates, and/or drug testing requirements.\nRange and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only\nUS: Hiring Range in USD from: $169,800 to $355,400 per annum.
