This role is ideal for a developer who enjoys learning new technologies, solving technical challenges, and collaborating closely with experienced engineers in a hands-on environment.\nWhy You’ll Love Working Here\nAs an Embedded Software Developer reporting to the Director, Modem Software, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our Smart Tracking applications and embedded software solutions.\nWorking full-time onsite in Ottawa, you will collaborate with software developers, test engineers, and product teams to design, implement, troubleshoot, and validate software features that drive customer value.\nYou will have the opportunity to learnspecialized technologies and development environments while receiving mentorship from experienced team members.\nWhat You’ll Do\nSoftware Development & Feature Delivery\nDevelop and maintain embedded software components that support Smart Tracking products.\nLearn and apply the Lua programming language to develop and enhance product functionality.\nImplement targeted software features under the guidance of senior team members.\nTranslate defined requirements into working software solutions.\nApplication & System Support\nBecome proficient in the Lua software environment and associated development tools.\nDevelop terminal applications based on functional requirements.\nInvestigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects by identifying impacted services and implementing fixes.\nCollaborate with mentors and team members to analyze and address technical issues.\nTesting & Quality Assurance\nLearn and utilize the automated regression testing framework.\nCreate and maintain automated test cases to support product quality and feature validation.\nParticipate in manual and automated testing activities to ensure software reliability and performance.\nSupport continuous improvement of testing processes and coverage.\nCollaboration & Continuous Learning\nWork closely with software developers, testers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver product enhancements.\nParticipate in code reviews, team discussions, and development planning activities.\nBuild knowledge of ORBCOMM products, systems, and development practices through hands-on learning and mentorship.\nContribute to team objectives supporting delivery of the Smart Tracking application roadmap.\nWho You Are\nYou are a motivated software developer who enjoys learning new technologies, solving technical problems, and contributing to embedded software products in a collaborative team environment.\nIf you have:\n3-5 years of experience developing software applications using modern programming languages.\nKnowledge of software development fundamentals, debugging techniques, and troubleshooting methodologies.\nUnderstanding ofembedded software development principles.\nExperience working in Linux or similar development environments.\nFamiliarity with software testing concepts and automated testing practices.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.\nAbility to learn new technologies quickly and apply them effectively.\nExperience with Lua programming is preferred.\nExperience developing terminal or command-line applications is preferred.\nExposure to regression testing frameworks or automated test development is preferred.\nExperience working on IoT, telecommunications, tracking, or connected-device products is preferred.\nLeverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.\nCommitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.\nThen we want to meetyou!\nThe Benefits of Working Here\nA career with ORBCOMM offers a unique opportunity to grow your skills and expand your expertise in a collaborative, innovative environment.
