Job Description:

This is a full time, Limited Duration position with an anticipated duration of November 1, 2026 - October 31, 2028.

We will also consider a Job Rotation for current, regular status employees of Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in good standing in a permanent or limited duration position (not temporary or seasonal) that is expected to continue through at least October 31, 2028. As a District Wildlife Technician (Fish and Wildlife Technician) in Roseburg, Oregon, you will assist district wildlife biologist and assistants in performing all wildlife management functions and related activities required to carry out the Department's programs in the Douglas County, Umpqua Watershed District. Duties include:

  • Perform farming and forage enhancement operations on public and private lands.

  • Help landowners resolve wildlife conflict.

  • Assist with wildlife population monitoring from both air and ground.

  • Trap ungulates, carnivores, upland and migratory game birds and other wildlife as needed using a variety of methods including immobilization drugs, drive/walk-in/ corral traps, rocket nets, drop nets and net guns.

  • Apply agricultural husbandry knowledge, including tillage, fertilization, and planting of grasses and legumes.

  • Build, repair, and maintain fencing.

  • Operate, maintain, and repair farm and construction equipment including trucks, tractors, backhoes, loaders, graders, dozers, plows, trailers, augers, disks, harrows, spreaders, seeders, pumps, motors, winches, generators, four-wheelers, and shop tools.

  • Maintain equipment logs and records.

  • Perform basic painting, electrical wiring, mechanical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, concrete work, and welding (electric and oxy-acetylene).

  • Fabricate and install nesting devices for birds.

This position requires obtaining an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Education Card through the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department within six months of appointment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

Fish and Wildlife Technician ($3798 - $5193)

Option 1: An Associate's degree in Wildlife Technology or Agriculture;

-OR-

Option 2: Eighteen months of experience in the care of livestock, agricultural research and experimentation, monitoring game or wildlife, or farming. (Six months of fisheries or related habitat work experience will count toward this experience).

Equivalency Notes:

  • A higher level degree in Wildlife Science, Agriculture, or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate’s degree.

Fish and Wildlife Technician Entry Option ($3515 - $4312):

Minimum qualifications are not established for this classification (there are no minimum qualifications). Previous related experience is desirable.
