Manager, Finance Integration

New York, NY or Remote

Our Culture at Orion

At Orion, we are builders. We want to be the gold standard for people in the Commercial Services trades. We are building a 100+ year business with an A+ team, driven, excited about the future, and looking for people who want to build with us. We believe in hiring people with a growth mindset who are committed to building something bigger than themselves. Our culture is grounded in four core values: Coach, Compete, Collaborate, and Commit. We strive to be low ego, high performance, and deeply committed to our people, our Operating Companies, and our long-term vision.

Orion Service Group is a growing network of commercial services businesses across the United States, spanning HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building automation, and related trades. We are highly acquisitive, integrating 10-15 operating companies per year, and converting each acquisition into a stable, growth-ready business within the first 90 days of ownership.

Orion is a roll-up-your-sleeves culture. At all levels, we expect people to prioritize, act quickly and effectively, demonstrate agility in their thinking, and get the job done every day. This is not a sit-back-and-direct environment. We value doers, problem-solvers, and people who are hands-on and decisive.

The Role

The Manager of Finance Integration owns the finance and accounting workstream across Orion's acquisitions, from late stage diligence through the first close cycles under our ownership. This role sits on the Corporate Controllership team and reports to the VP, Corporate Controller.

You will serve two very different clients. Before close, you support the deal team: pressure-testing the quality of earnings and forming a view on the accounting, tax, legal, and back-office exposure that transaction diligence does not always reach. After close, your client becomes the finance team of the company we just bought. You are on the ground with them, standing up the opening balance sheet, converting their accounting onto our processes and lead schedules, and getting them audit ready alongside the rest of the network.

This is a builder’s role. Our Group VPs of Finance lead the effort to bring each acquisition in their region up to the Orion standard. You build and implement the frameworks and playbooks that make that possible and carry them from deal to deal. You will work alongside the M&A Integrations Manager, who runs the overall integration program, while you own the finance workstream inside it. Much of the value here comes from being physically present at newly acquired companies, working shoulder to shoulder with a controller who has never operated inside a platform before.

What We Are Looking For

Core Competencies

Hands-on accounting depth - you are comfortable with business combination accounting, opening balance sheets, working capital settlements, and reconciliation standards, and you can work through a question with a controller in the moment rather than taking it away and coming back.

Exposure assessment - you can analysis where risk hide in a business, and you form and defend a view across accounting, tax, legal, HR, and IT, including how large it could be and how likely. You surface it early enough to shape the deal rather than only to explain it afterward.

Documentation discipline - you maintain and improve the frameworks and templates that let other people repeat what you did, written well enough to execute without you in the room.

Ability to push standards, not just help - you are as effective at holding a line as you are at rolling up your sleeves. This role is a resource to the operating companies and also the person who leads them to change.

Field presence and credibility - you build trust with operating controllers, and you earn the right to change how they work by knowing the work. A meaningful share of this job is teaching people through a large transition of their career.

Ownership mentality - when the numbers are not right, it becomes your problem to solve, even if you did not create it. You take full accountability for the integration workstream you lead

Systems fluency - you migrate companies onto new platforms without losing the history, and you understand what a system can enforce and what only judgment can.

Comfort with ambiguity and a fast pace - you work several deals at different stages at once, adapt to companies that look nothing alike, and stay organized under a high volume of concurrent demands.

Low ego, high collaboration - you partner across the deal team, Integrations, Systems, and operating company leadership, and build consensus without direct authority.

Experience and Qualifications

8+ years in accounting or finance, with meaningful experience in acquisitions, integration, transaction services, or audit.

Hands-on experience with business combination accounting: opening balance sheets, purchase price allocation, and working with third-party valuation specialists.

Experience with quality of earnings work or transaction diligence, from either the buy side or the advisory side.

Ability to form a view on tax and legal exposure at a target, size it, and know when to escalate it. You do not need to be the tax specialist, but you do need to recognize the issue and quantify the risk before someone else does.

Track record of standing up accounting processes where they were informal, and of writing the frameworks and templates that made them stick.

Direct involvement in at least one accounting system implementation or migration. Experience with COINs, Sage Intacct, FloQast, or comparable platforms is a strong plus.

Proficiency across Microsoft Office and AI platforms (Claude or ChatGPT). Experience with monday.com or comparable project tooling is a plus.

CPA is a plus, not a requirement.

Willingness to travel. This role is built around being on-site with newly acquired companies.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Close: Deal Team Support

Join the deal after LOI to support the quality of earnings process and pressure-test the accounting behind the adjustments.

Form a view on the target's exposure profile across accounting, tax, and legal, including likelihood and magnitude, and route it to the VP of Corporate Controller, the deal team, and outside advisors as early as possible and before close wherever the timeline allows.

Assess the target's back office against what it will need to run efficiently inside the network, across people, process, and systems.

Track how identified risks are addressed, and carry what remains into the integration plan.

Post-Close: Opening Balance Sheet and Purchase Accounting

Own the collection and quality of the data our outside advisors need to finalize the ASC 805 valuation and the opening balance sheet.

Lead the balance sheet teardown at the acquired company and resolve what diligence surfaced.

Support net working capital true-up settlement and ensure it is recorded correctly.

Post-Close: Bringing the Company Onto the Standard

Convert the acquired company's accounting onto Orion's processes, lead schedules, and reconciliation standards, and get them audit-ready alongside the rest of the network.

Lead migration onto Orion's accounting and control workflow platforms.

Be the accessible answer for accounting and finance questions on site and through the first close cycles.

Document the control environment at each acquisition and identify what has to be stood up first.

Framework and Program

Maintain and improve the documentation framework for the finance onboarding of acquisitions: the playbook, checklists, templates, and lead schedule standards that make it executable by someone other than you.

Improve it after each deal so every acquisition starts further along than the last.

Partner with the Group VPs of Finance, who are the owners of the effort in their regions, and with the M&A Integrations Manager, who runs the overall integration program.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the VP, Corporate Controller, and partners closely with the Group VPs of Finance, the deal team, and the Integrations team.

Work Location and Schedule

This is a full-time role based in New York, New York. Remote candidates will be considered for the right fit. Travel of 50%+ to operating companies is expected as part of the integration process.

Compensation

The salary for this role will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with organizational needs.
