(OSF) is seeking a Packaging Operator to assist in production, quality, and inventory by ensuring our product is packaged to specifications. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the bagging and packaging equipment to its highest capabilities by meeting or exceeding production line standards and will actively participate in workplace safety. \n\nDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:\nUnderstand the packaging equipment being used and how to adjust tolerances as necessary\nObserve the flow of the packaging line and identify any areas of improvement\nUnderstand and prepare equipment for the specific package size to be used based on orders\nIdentify packaging defects and make necessary adjustments immediately\nVerify all packages for correct dates, codes, weights and cut lines \nMaintain equipment effectively ensuring good working order\nPerform film changeovers efficiently and ensure that the production line continues to run smoothly with no unnecessary delays\nVerify staged materials for production run at the beginning and end of shift\nPerform basic math and data entry\nOperate and maintain the box erectors\nTroubleshoot equipment failure and inefficiencies\nComplete daily paperwork accurately and submit at the end of each shift\nCommunicate routinely with Production Supervisor providing status updates on efficiency, downtime including any pending issues or concerns\nParticipate in overseeing the quality of the products packaged with final check point in mind\nPerform cleaning activities as necessary on processing and packaging equipment \nAccurately document all cleaning activities \nFollow all food safety and food quality standards, regulations, and laws\nRemain current with training expectations\nComplete Pre/post shift inventory\nSupport for all positions on the packaging line as needed\nFollow safety and security rules and precautions\nDemonstrate a daily commitment to continuous improvement\nPerform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Production Supervisor\n\nDESIRED KEY COMPETENCIES:\nDemonstrate the highest ethical standards and trustworthiness\nThe ability to work collaboratively and independently on various types of tasks in a fast-paced environment\nThe ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently with little guidance\nAbility to read, write and speak English\nThe ability to communicate at all levels of the organization with clarity and precision to ensure safe work practices\nThe ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations\nThe ability to troubleshoot inefficient or malfunctioned equipment under your control to a mechanical level\nProficient understanding and mechanical aptitude\nFamiliar with and understanding of GMPs\nMetal Detector operations\nScale/weight calibration\nHigh attention to detail with the ability to multitask/manage multiple priorities \nBasic understanding of computer software \nThe ability to utilize equipment specific programs \nFood Safety Standard knowledge (BRCGS Global Food Safety Standard preferred)\nTrack record of safe work history\nThe ability to remain positive and adapt to change\n\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent preferred\n2+ years’ experience in food processing \n1 year Operator level experience in food processing\n\nPHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS\nLifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. safely\nStanding for long periods of time, frequent twisting and bending, use of both hands, manual & finger dexterity for rolling/manipulating \nClimbing ladders. \nBeing in cold, wet, and damp climates of 33°F-38°F for long periods of time\nExposure to loud noises\nThe use of safety equipment when operating machinery that may include protective clothing, safety glasses, hearing protectors, and safety shoes\nRepetitive motions\n\nGMP & FOOD SAFETY REQUIREMENTS\nThis position requires compliance with all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety policies. Employees must follow all sanitation, hygiene, and PPE requirements.
