This unit features significant patient room upgrades, and care for a mixture of med/surg and stepdown patients.This comprehensive unit provides elevated care to some of OU Health's most complex patients, encouraging team-based care and easier access to services.\nOur unit focuses on all things Neuro! Our patient population includes diagnosis of strokes, seizures, brain mass, and neck and spinal surgery. This unit specializes in 24-7 epilepsy monitoring, where patients are being closely monitored and observed for any seizure activity. We will provide you the necessary tools in successfully performing a Yale swallow screening and becoming NIHSS certified (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification).\nOU Health has introduced a groundbreaking hybrid nursing model that integrates both virtual and in-person nursing teams, aimed at improving care coordination and bolstering the nursing workforce within the state's premier academic health system.Under general supervision of a registered nurse, performs routine tasks in patient care.\nEssential Responsibilities\nResponsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.\nUnder general supervision of the RN and in collaboration with the patient and family, systematically and continually monitors the patient’s health status and implements the plan of care.\nCarries out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN that is within scope. \nTakes/records blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and weighs patients. \nPerforms blood glucose monitoring. \nSets up and discontinues telemetry monitor. \nCollects specimens as directed. \nApplies sterile dressings, removal of sutures, staples and/or drains. Performs all sterile procedures as assigned. \nPerforms stomal irrigation and applies colostomy pouches. \nPerforms oral suctioning. \nTakes emergency actions as needed and within scope. \nPerforms all treatments and procedures as defined on initial skills checklist. \nReports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition or behavior to RN. \nAssists with admission, discharge and transfer process. \nTransports patients to and from various treatment centers when necessary; assists transporters in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs. \nKeeps the patient’s room in clean and orderly condition; makes beds, replaces soiled linen. \nAssists in restocking rooms with supplies and equipment as directed. \nWhen assigned to one patient as a safety attendant, provides care, observes the patient and does not leave the patient alone. \nMay precept new CTAs. \nGeneral Responsibilities\nPerforms other duties as assigned. \nEducation Requirements\nHS Diploma or GED required. \nExperience Requirements\nNo experience required. \nLicense/Certification/Registration Requirements\nCurrent Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required. \nCertified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) OR Patient Care Technician (PCTC) OR Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) required. \nKnowledge/Skills/Abilities\nKnowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures. \nAbility to communicate effectively. \nAbility to follow written and oral instructions. \nAbility to maintain effective working relations with others. \nCurrent OU Health Employees - Please clickHEREto login.\nOU Health is an equal opportunity employer.
