And we’re just getting started.\nTax Manager (Permanent Role)\nAbout the Role\nThe tax manager will act as the tax subject matter expert across South Africa and broader Africa operations, ensuring robust compliance, effective management of tax audits and disputes, mitigation of risk, and high-quality tax reporting through oversight of execution activities and provision of strategic tax advisory support.\nThe role supports planning and business decision-making by managing multi-jurisdictional tax obligations, optimising tax outcomes, enhancing cashflow outcomes, and ensuring alignment with Group governance standards.\nThe Tax Manager will report to the Financial Operations Manager. This post is based in Cape Town, at the Goodwood office.\nIn this role, you will:\nTax compliance, audit & litigation management :\nReview and approve corporate income tax and provisional tax filings (SA, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and other Africa markets) \nReview VAT and indirect tax returns across jurisdictions \nManage tax audits, queries, disputes, and assessments with revenue authorities\nPrepare and review responses to tax authority notices, objections, and appeals \nCoordinate with external tax advisors and legal counsel on disputes and litigation matters \nMonitor compliance calendar and regulatory submissions\nTax advisory, planning & commercial support:\nAdvice on business transactions and cross-border activities\nPerform and review corporate tax calculation for South Africa and other Africa markets\nPartner with commercial and finance teams to optimise tax outcomes\nInterpret and apply country-specific tax legislation\nSupport structuring commercial arrangements, contracts, transactions, tax planning and forecasting processes\nContribute to budgeting, forecast planning, monthly/year-end closing processes with tax assumptions and impacts\nIdentify opportunities for tax efficiency and cashflow improvement\nTransfer pricing & international tax:\nReview and maintain transfer pricing documentation \nEnsure alignment with OECD/BEPS principles \nSupport intercompany pricing policies and cross border transactions\nTax risk management & governance:\nIdentify jurisdiction-specific tax risks and exposures\nImplement and monitor tax control frameworks\nTrack and manage tax dispute and litigation exposure\nEnsure compliance with Group tax policies and standards\nSupport internal and external audits.\nMaintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across functions and jurisdictions to support tax compliance and advisory.\nDrive efficiency through process improvement and technology enablement.\nEnsure effective coordination and quality oversight of tax activities across roles and jurisdictions.\nSupport capability development and promote knowledge sharing within Finance teams.\nAbout You:\nEssential Criteria:\nQualified CA (SA)\n3-5 years Post Qualification Experience\nExperience in corporate and indirect tax\nExperience in tax compliance, reporting, audits and dispute management\nExposure to multi-jurisdiction tax environments\nAbility to manage and operate effectively in multi-country tax environments\nAwareness of evolving tax legislation across Africa\nAbility to engage with tax authorities and manage disputes\nAbility to partner with commercial teams\nUnderstanding of business drivers and financial impact\nDesirable:\nPostgraduate qualification or specialisation in tax\nArticles completed with Big 4 namely PwC, Deloitte, EY and KPMG\nExperience in African markets (e.g., South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia)\nTransfer pricing exposure\nExperience in multinational organisations\nPublishing / media industry exposure \nClosing date: 18 August 2026\n\nOxford University Press, an equal opportunity employer, seeks a talented individual to fill this post based at Goodwood, Cape Town.
