We’re a full-stack company: we deploy GPU-powered cameras on production lines, run inference on the edge, and operate a platform that supports large fleets of devices deployed across the world.\nWe’re growing extremely fast. Our customers love the product because it works -high accuracy, fast deployment, and an operator-friendly experience that makes real factory rollouts possible (not just pilots).\nThe mission\nOverview.ai is building the most powerful edge AI vision platform for manufacturing-deployed on real production lines, not in lab demos. Our AI is only as good as the images we feed it. That’s why this role exists.\nWe’re hiring a top-tier Vision Applications Engineer in China-someone who can walk up to a difficult inspection problem (reflective metal, transparent plastic, motion blur, awkward geometry, cramped mounting, unstable presentation) and immediately start forming a lighting + optics strategy that makes the problem solvable. You’ll be the person customers remember: the one who makes “impossible” inspections suddenly look obvious.\nThis role is vision-first. You don’t need to be a controls engineer. You do need to be an exceptional optical/lighting problem solver who can also own field execution: customer communication, on-site deployments, training, and project delivery.\nWhy this role is exciting\nSolve the hardest vision problems in the world: The customers we work with bring problems that break traditional machine vision. You’ll be in the deep end.\n\nWork with cutting-edge AI + real factories: You’ll turn great imaging into great AI outcomes-and see the impact immediately on yield and downtime.\n\nHigh autonomy, high trust: You’ll be the expert in the room, leading technical strategy and owning outcomes end-to-end.\n\nWin against incumbents: You’ll know the competitive landscape (Cognex, Keyence, HALCON, Hikvision, etc.) and use that knowledge to help us close deals and expand deployments.\n\nTravel + variety: New lines, new parts, new weird optical phenomena-this role stays interesting.\n\nWhat you’ll own\n1) Vision strategy: optics + lighting (core of the role)\nYou will design and iterate the imaging solution that makes inspection reliable:\nSelect and tune lighting for challenging surfaces and geometries:\nbright field / dark field, coaxial, dome, diffuse, low-angle, structured light, line lights, spot/point, backlight, multisource setups\n\npolarization (cross/parallel), glare suppression, specular management\n\nstrobed lighting vs continuous, high-speed exposure strategies, motion-freezing\n\n“2.5D” techniques: photometric-style approaches, multi-angle illumination, gradient/shape enhancement\n\nSelect and deploy lenses and optical elements:\ntelecentric, macro, high-NA, long working distance, wide-angle vs narrow, Scheimpflug (tilt) where appropriate\n\nfilters (bandpass, long-pass/short-pass), polarizers, diffusers, beam splitters\n\nmirrors/prisms for impossible mounting angles and constrained spaces\n\nPush beyond visible light when needed:\nIR / NIR / SWIR (and other spectral strategies), multispectral approaches, fluorescence-style thinking where relevant\n\nDiagnose and solve “weird” vision failure modes:\nreflectivity, transparency, subsurface features, moiré, aliasing, lens flare/ghosting, vibration blur, rolling shutter artifacts, shadowing/occlusion, contamination drift\n\nThe bar: you can often tease out a workable imaging approach just by looking at the part + environment, then validate it quickly in the field.\n2) Project ownership: deploy, stabilize, scale\nOwn customer deployments end-to-end: planning, on-site execution, training, follow-through.\n\nDrive fast iteration cycles: image capture → lighting/lens adjustments → validation → production-ready setup.\n\nTrain customer teams (process/quality/ops) on:\ndaily operation, basic troubleshooting, re-validation after maintenance, and how to keep image quality stable.\n\nCreate clear documentation and “golden configs” that make future rollouts faster.\n\n3) Competitive expertise: help us win\nMaintain a strong working knowledge of the machine vision ecosystem and competitor offerings:\nCognex, Keyence, HALCON/MVTec, Hikrobot/Hikvision, and other common players.\n\nParticipate in pre-sales technical discovery and solutioning:\nhelp position Overview.ai intelligently, identify where incumbents will fail, and propose imaging strategies that make our AI shine.\n\nFeed market intelligence back into product and go-to-market teams.\n\nWho you are\nRequired\nDeep, hands-on machine vision experience with a heavy emphasis on lighting + optics (not just “camera setup”)\n\nTrack record solving difficult inspections in production environments (reflective/transparent, tight geometry, high speed, variable presentation)\n\nStrong practical knowledge of the lighting and lens landscape:\nyou understand the tradeoffs and failure modes, not just the catalog names\n\nAbility to operate independently in factories and own outcomes\n\nMandarin fluency (native or near-native)\n\nWorking English for collaboration with global engineering/product teams\n\nStrong communication skills: you can explain optical strategies clearly to customers and teammates\n\nStrong preferences\nExperience building vision solutions across multiple industries (electronics, automotive, connectors, batteries, packaging, etc.)\n\nExperience with advanced optical methods (telecentric, polarization, structured light, multi-angle, spectral techniques)\n\nComfort running field experiments quickly and methodically (hypothesis → test → iterate)\n\nWhat success looks like\nCustomers trust you as the vision expert who can solve “impossible” inspections.\n\nYou consistently deliver stable, repeatable imaging configurations that make AI performance excellent.\n\nYou help win deals by out-thinking incumbents and demonstrating superior solutioning.\n\nYou turn one-off optical victories into reusable playbooks, reference setups, and standards.\n\nWhyOverview.ai (why top candidates join)\nExtreme growth + real-world impact: We’re not building demos. We’re deploying AI systems on real production lines, at scale.\n\nTalent density: You’ll work with world-class engineers and operators across AI, embedded systems, and enterprise deployment.\n\nFront-row seat to the AI manufacturing wave: This is one of the biggest transformations happening in industry right now.\n\nOwnership: In this role, your work directly changes the trajectory of the company. Great hiring = winning.\n\nGlobal exposure: You’ll recruit for roles that touch the most advanced customers and factories in the world.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6714,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"China","iso":"CN","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Computer Vision","Edge AI","Industrial AI"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-05T14:16:21Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":2,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.056,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":151,"expected_fill_days":12,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","evergreen","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-25T05:49:26Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/overview-ai-vision-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/overview-ai-vision-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-25T18:52:24Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":26788,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-26T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":2779},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=2779"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Foverview-ai-vision-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Foverview-ai-vision-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Foverview-ai-vision-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/overview-ai-vision-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Foverview-ai-vision-engineer"}]}
