By enabling biological insights, we strive to improve life on Earth and beyond.\nRole Overview\nWe are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to deliver high-impact analytical work across Oxford Nanopore. Working closely with stakeholders across multiple business functions, you will understand and define business requirements, identify where data and analytics can have the greatest impact, and translate these into prioritised analytical initiatives. You will own the planning and delivery of analytics work end-to-end, ensuring solutions address the underlying business need and deliver measurable value.\nKey Responsibilities:\nPartner with stakeholders across multiple business units to understand business challenges, opportunities and decision-making needs, translating these into clearly defined analytical requirements and measurable outcomes.\nOwn the planning and end-to-end delivery of analytics and data science initiatives, from initial discovery and requirements definition through analysis, implementation and impact assessment.\nAssess the potential business impact, value and urgency of analytical opportunities and use this to prioritise work effectively across competing requirements.\nManage analytical initiatives spanning multiple business units, aligning stakeholders around scope, priorities, dependencies, timelines and expected outcomes.\nDevelop robust analyses and data science solutions using Python, SQL, statistical methods and other appropriate analytical techniques.\nSelect analytical approaches appropriate to the business problem, balancing sophistication, available data, delivery effort and expected value.\nTranslate complex analysis into clear insights, recommendations and actions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nDefine measures of success and evaluate the impact of delivered analytics, using evidence to understand whether solutions have achieved the intended business outcomes and to inform future priorities.\nProactively identify opportunities where data and analytics can improve business performance, operational efficiency and decision-making.\nWork closely with Data Engineering and other technical teams to ensure analytical solutions are supported by reliable, scalable data and infrastructure.\nContribute to analytical standards, reusable approaches and best practices across the wider data organisation.\n\nQualifications/Experience:\nStrong experience delivering analytics or data science work that addresses complex, real-world business problems.\nDemonstrable experience working directly with stakeholders to understand requirements, challenge assumptions and translate ambiguous business problems into clearly defined analytical work.\nExperience owning analytical initiatives from problem definition through delivery, implementation and assessment of impact.\nExperience planning and coordinating analytical work involving multiple stakeholders, teams or business functions.\nStrong judgement in assessing potential business value and prioritising competing analytical opportunities.\nStrong Python and SQL skills, with experience analysing and interpreting complex datasets.\nStrong statistical and analytical reasoning, with the ability to select appropriate techniques based on the problem being solved.\nAbility to communicate complex analysis clearly and translate findings into actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences.\nExperience applying techniques such as statistical modelling, forecasting, experimentation, optimisation or machine learning would be advantageous.\nExperience with data visualisation and BI tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Spotfire would be beneficial.\nExperience working with Data Engineering teams, modern data platforms or delivering analytical solutions into operational environments would be advantageous.\nDegree-level education in a numerate, scientific, technical or analytical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.\n\nPlease note that no terminology in this advert is intended to discriminate on the grounds of a person's gender, marital status, race, religion, colour, age, disability or sexual orientation.
