Born from a philosophy of bold innovation, we’ve successfully transitioned quantum computing from an academic dream into a commercial reality. The most exciting thing is that we’re just getting started and we’ve recently closed our £260 million Series C funding round - the largest fundraise ever completed by a quantum computing company in Europe.\nThe Purpose\nAs a Quantum Algorithm Engineer specialising in Detection, you'll develop and evaluate quantum methods for detection, prediction and estimation workloads. You'll establish credible evidence for performance on real hardware-understanding not just whether an approach works, but what the quantum component contributes, how portable it is across hardware, and where it can deliver meaningful value.\nThe Role\nBased in London, you'll work at the intersection of quantum algorithm research and applied product development. You'll develop quantum parent methods, design measurement strategies and rigorously assess circuit cost, sample complexity, noise sensitivity and hardware portability.\nThis is an opportunity to take an evidence-led approach to quantum algorithms. You'll design controlled experiments that separate theoretical promise from demonstrated performance, helping turn the most promising methods into repeatable capabilities for OQC's wider hybrid computing platform.\nWhat You'll Be Working On\nDevelop quantum parent methods for detection, prediction and related estimation workloads.\nExplore approaches spanning quantum kernels, variational models, estimation, optimisation and sampling.\nDesign quantum advice and observable-acquisition strategies suitable for downstream shadow-model training.\nAnalyse circuit cost, sample complexity, measurement requirements, noise robustness and resource requirements.\nEvaluate algorithm and circuit portability across quantum hardware, including the impact of compilation and hardware constraints.\nDesign controlled ablation studies that isolate and quantify exactly what individual quantum components contribute.\nBenchmark theoretical expectations against evidence from real hardware, using results to guide algorithm development and product decisions.\nWhat We're Looking For\nBroad quantum algorithm expertise across areas such as quantum kernels, variational models, estimation, optimisation or sampling.\nStrong algorithm analysis skills, including resource estimation and understanding the practical costs of quantum execution.\nStrong knowledge of quantum measurement strategies and their impact on algorithm performance.\nExperience analysing noise sensitivity and the behaviour of algorithms under realistic hardware constraints.\nUnderstanding of quantum compilation and its impact on performance and hardware portability.\nThe ability to design rigorous experiments and distinguish theoretical promise from evidence demonstrated on real quantum hardware.\nStrong ownership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across quantum, software, product and engineering disciplines.\nDegree or equivalent practical experience in Quantum Computing, Computer Science, Physics or a related discipline.\nThe 'Nice-to-Haves'\nExperience taking quantum research software or experimental methods into repeatable engineering workflows.\nExperience evaluating quantum algorithms across different hardware platforms or architectures.\nFamiliarity with regulated enterprise use cases and evidence-led product development.\nExperience developing quantum methods that contribute to hybrid classical-quantum workflows.\nA pragmatic, curious approach and comfort working in a fast-evolving technical environment.\nA relevant professional or postgraduate qualification.\nWhy Join OQC\nYou will join a world-class team at the forefront of the next computational era. We offer a culture of bold innovation, the chance to work with unique lab infrastructure, and the opportunity to see your work redefine the limits of computation.\nLearn more about our benefits and positive work culture here: https://oqc.tech/company/careers-at-oqc/","description_format":"text","description_chars":4144,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Quantum Science & Computing","Hardware","Quantum Computing Hardware"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-24T14:01:04Z"}],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":55,"reasons":["conf:2","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-25T01:14:26Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/oxford-quantum-circuits-quantum-algorithm-engineer-detection","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/oxford-quantum-circuits-quantum-algorithm-engineer-detection.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-25T01:14:26Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1196,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":3804,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-09-26T00:00:00Z"}}}
