The Tooling Setup Technician works closely with Production, Tooling, Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Quality to minimize changeover time, support successful production startups, and maintain safe and reliable die casting operations.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nPerform complete die changes and tooling setups on HPDC machines according to production schedules and established procedures.\nSafely remove dies from die casting machines and install dies required for upcoming production runs.\nUse overhead cranes, hoists, lifting devices, and rigging equipment to safely move and position dies and tooling.\nVerify proper die orientation, positioning, alignment, clamping, and machine interface before startup.\nInstall and connect die-related components, including cooling and heating lines, water manifolds, hydraulic lines, core-pull connections, lubrication systems, sensors, switches, and other required connections.\nConnect and verify ejector systems, slides, cores, and other moving tooling components.\nInspect dies and tooling before installation for visible damage, wear, leaks, loose components, blocked lines, or other conditions that could affect safe operation or production.\nVerify that cooling circuits, water lines, fittings, hoses, seals, and connections are properly installed and free from leaks.\nInstall or assist with setup of shot-end components and other tooling-related equipment as required.\nAssist with setup and alignment of trim dies, trim presses, fixtures, and related downstream tooling as required.\nVerify that required die sprays, lubricants, release agents, and tooling supplies are available and properly connected.\nFollow setup sheets, work instructions, tooling specifications, production schedules, and engineering requirements.\nComplete pre-startup inspections and setup verification before releasing equipment for production.\nSupport machine startup and first-piece production following die changes.\nWork with Process Engineering and Production to resolve setup-related issues during startup.\nAssist Quality personnel with first-piece or first-article approval as required.\nTroubleshoot basic tooling and setup issues involving alignment, connections, cooling, ejector operation, core pulls, sensors, and related components.\nImmediately identify and communicate damaged or malfunctioning dies and tooling to Tooling, Maintenance, Engineering, or supervision.\nAssist Tool & Die personnel with minor tooling adjustments and repairs when qualified and assigned.\nMaintain dies, setup equipment, rigging equipment, hoses, fittings, clamps, and tooling accessories in clean and serviceable condition.\nReturn removed dies and tooling to designated storage or maintenance locations.\nMaintain accurate die-change, setup, inspection, and tooling documentation as required.\nParticipate in activities to reduce die-change and setup times and improve equipment availability.\nSupport SMED, 5S, continuous improvement, and standardized work initiatives.\nMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.\nFollow all company safety, quality, environmental, and operating procedures.\nPerform other related duties as assigned.\nSafety Responsibilities\nFollow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and stored-energy-control procedures during tooling changes and equipment setup.\nFollow established crane, hoist, rigging, and material-handling procedures.\nInspect lifting devices and rigging equipment before use as required.\nNever work beneath suspended loads.\nFollow appropriate procedures when working around hot dies, molten metal, hydraulic systems, compressed air, and other hazardous energy sources.\nWear required personal protective equipment (PPE).\nImmediately report unsafe conditions, damaged lifting equipment, tooling problems, leaks, and other safety concerns.\nRequired Qualifications\nPrevious experience in manufacturing, tooling, machine setup, die casting, mold setup, or a related industrial environment.\nStrong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with large industrial equipment.\nAbility to safely use hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and basic measuring equipment.\nAbility to read and follow setup sheets, work instructions, diagrams, and technical documentation.\nAbility to identify hydraulic, pneumatic, cooling, electrical, and mechanical connections associated with production tooling.\nAbility to troubleshoot basic mechanical and tooling setup problems.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a cross-functional manufacturing team.\nAbility to work assigned shifts, overtime, weekends, and shutdown periods as production requirements dictate.\nPreferred Qualifications\n2+ years of experience performing die changes, mold changes, tooling setup, or similar industrial setup work.\nPrevious High Pressure Die Casting experience.\nExperience with aluminum or magnesium die casting operations.\nExperience setting up large HPDC dies and related tooling.\nExperience operating overhead cranes and hoists.\nExperience with industrial rigging and safe lifting practices.\nKnowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.\nFamiliarity with die cooling and thermal-control systems.\nExperience with trim presses and trim dies.\nFamiliarity with HPDC tooling components, including ejector systems, slides, cores, inserts, cooling circuits, vents, and shot-end components.\nForklift certification or previous forklift experience.\nKnowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures.\nExperience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and SMED/changeover-reduction principles.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nStrong mechanical aptitude.\nKnowledge of safe die installation and removal practices.\nAbility to properly select and use lifting and rigging equipment.\nAbility to recognize damaged or unsafe tooling and equipment.\nStrong attention to detail during setup verification.\nAbility to work effectively under production deadlines.\nGood troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.\nEffective communication with Production, Maintenance, Tooling, Engineering, and Quality personnel.\nDependable attendance and ability to respond to production priorities.\nPhysical Requirements\nThe employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.\nThe position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and working around large manufacturing equipment. The employee must be able to safely handle tools and equipment, work around hot surfaces and industrial machinery, and perform work requiring manual dexterity.\nThe employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Heavier dies, tooling, and components must be moved using approved mechanical lifting equipment.\nWork Environment\nWork is performed primarily in a High Pressure Die Casting manufacturing environment.
