You can read more about us in this letter from our founders.\nWhy This Role Matters\nAs the Facilities Engineer, you will be the primary technical bridge\nbetween our fusion demonstration system design team and the facility\ninfrastructure. This is a high-impact role responsible for the integration of\ncomplex mechanical and electrical systems that power and support our fusion\ndemonstration system. You will manage the interface where cutting-edge\nscience meets industrial-scale engineering, overseeing design consultants to\ndevelop bespoke hardware and ensuring the facility's infrastructure is perfectly\nsynchronized with the machine’s operational requirements.\nThis position is based in San Leandro, California, and will require up to 25% travel to\nour Los Lunas, New Mexico facility for the first 2 years to embed with the design team\nduring the critical engineering phase. The role will transition to Los Lunas, New Mexico in 2028, after which the expectation is relocation to New Mexico or near 100% presence in New Mexico.\nWhat You'll Do\nOversee the interface between the fusion demonstration system designand the facility infrastructure, ensuring M&E systems (power, cooling,\nand utilities) meet stringent scientific requirements\n\nManage relationships and technical deliverables with external designconsultants to develop large-scale mechanical and electrical hardware\nsupporting the system\n\nWork with the Infrastructure Design Team to ensure facility systems aredocumented and designed appropriately for permitting, construction,\nand long-term operations\n\nSupport the physical assembly and construction of the fusiondemonstration system, coordinating the installation of critical\nsubsystems within the facility\n\nSupport the development of utility systems including high-voltageelectrical distribution, specialized cooling loops, and vacuum system\ninfrastructure\n\nSupport the commissioning and transition of building systems fromconstruction into full-scale research operations\n\nWhat You Bring\nMinimum BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Dual-disciplinefamiliarity is a significant plus)\n\n10+ years of experience in the design, construction, andcommissioning of large-scale industrial or scientific research facilities\n\nProven track record managing complex M&E infrastructure, includinghigh-voltage power, process piping, and industrial cooling\n\nSignificant experience managing engineering consultants and large-scale hardware procurement contracts\n\nProactive, \"DOer,\" and self-starter capable of navigating the ambiguityof a first-of-a-kind research project\n\nA positive attitude and the ability to influence cross-functional teams ofscientists, engineers, and contractors\n\nBonus Points For\nPrevious experience at a National Laboratory (e.g., SNL, LANL, LLNL)or similar highly-regulated research environments\n\nExperience overseeing construction or facilities involving radiologicalshielding, hot cells, or other high-energy physics hazards\n\nKnowledge of pulsed-power infrastructure, ultra-high vacuum (UHV)environments, or cryogenic systems\n\nPE (Professional Engineer) license\nExperience working closely with PhD scientists and R&D organizationsto translate theoretical needs into physical hardware\n\nPay Range:\n$138,100—$207,100 USD\nTOTAL COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS FOR ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES\nIndustry-competitive salary\n\nEquity plan\n\n6% employer 401k matching\n\nGenerous paid time off (including sick leave, vacation, paid family leave)\n\nMedical, Dental, and Vision insurance\n\nActual base salary offered will be determined by: experience, skills, and work location.
