This role is responsible for supporting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA and applicable state regulations, minimizing risk, reducing incidents, and supporting operational excellence. \n\nKey Responsibilities \nAssist leadership with all plant safety, environmental and risk-management programs. \nDrive a zero-injury culture through employee engagement, training and accountability. \nAssist with OSHA compliance, inspections, recordkeeping and corrective actions. \nConduct incident investigations and root-cause analyses. \nAssist in upkeep of environmental permits, air, water, stormwater, waste and recycling programs. \nAssist in maintaining emergency response plans and coordinate drills. \nPartner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and HR to implement continuous improvement initiatives. \nSupport capital projects and operational changes to ensure EHS requirements are incorporated. \nDrive behavioral-based safety initiatives and employee engagement. \n\nInteractions \nThe EHS Assistant will interact with individuals throughout the company and from all types of positions. The individual must be able to develop rapport with co-workers in an effort to establish solid working relationships. Additionally, the EHS Assistant may interact with the external vendors and customers and must be able to positively represent the manager, department, and the company in these situations.\n\nPosition Requirements \nEducation equivalent to a high school diploma. Some college training preferred.\nComputer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.\nAbility to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, and requests for information.\nPrevious work experience in a team environment preferred, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing among co-workers.\nAble to work flexible hours or overtime as needed.\n\nPreferred Qualifications \nBachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering or related discipline. \nEHS experience within manufacturing, paper, packaging, corrugated or industrial environments. \nDemonstrated experience managing OSHA and environmental compliance programs. \n\nThis position summary is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people in this job.
