Test Engineer (Louisville, KY)
Job Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Test Engineer to join our Testing & Development team. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing tests for Packsize machines and related systems to ensure product quality, reliability, and performance. The ideal candidate combines strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a passion for working directly with electro-mechanical equipment, collaborating across teams, and driving continuous improvement through data-driven testing and validation activities

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, execute, and maintain test plans, test procedures, and test reports for Packsize products and subsystems.
- Independently perform hands-on testing of electro-mechanical systems, software features, consumables, and integrated machine functionality.
- Lead factory acceptance testing (PFAT), life-cycle management testing, NPD testing and customer-specific validation activities.
- Analyze test data to identify trends, defects, performance gaps, and opportunities for product improvement.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and system-level issues.
- Define acceptance criteria, testing methodologies, and data collection requirements for new and existing products.
- Document test results, findings, risks, and recommendations in Qase, ADO, SharePoint, and other company systems.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, Materials, and Field Service teams to investigate and resolve product issues.
- Support machine setup, configuration, commissioning, and test readiness activities.
- Design and improve test fixtures, tooling, automation concepts, and test processes to increase testing efficiency and repeatability.
- Mentor Test Technicians and provide technical direction during test execution activities.
- Participate in design reviews and provide feedback regarding product testability, reliability, manufacturability, and customer impact.
- Support field investigations, customer escalations, and validation efforts as required.
Key Success Criteria
- Successfully execute 95%+ of assigned test projects on schedule while maintaining complete and accurate documentation
- Ensure 100% of test results, defects, observations, and corrective actions are documented in approved systems.
- Demonstrate ownership of testing activities from planning through final reporting and recommendation
- Successful completion of PFAT, NPD, and sustaining validation projects with minimal rework or escaped defects.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Knowledge of structured testing methodologies and engineering validation practices.
- Experience working with electro-mechanical systems, industrial equipment, or automated machinery.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret technical data through Power-Bi, Databricks and reporting software
- Experience creating technical documentation, reports, and test procedures.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in test engineering, validation engineering, quality engineering, product development, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with factory acceptance testing (FAT/PFAT), product validation, or reliability testing.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Power BI, Databricks or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps (ADO), Jira, Qase, or equivalent test management systems.
- Understanding of electrical controls, sensors, PLCs, motion systems, and industrial automation.
- Experience designing or improving test fixtures, tooling, or automation solutions.
- Background in packaging systems, industrial automation, manufacturing equipment, or related industries
- Work Conditions
- 100% onsite role based within a manufacturing and testing environment.
- Regular hands-on work with industrial machinery, mechanical systems, electrical components, and test equipment.
- Frequently requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating equipment for extended periods.
- May occasionally require flexible hours to support production schedules, factory acceptance testing, or product validation activities.
- Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety procedures.
