You will coordinate the work of other engineers, set technical direction, improve existing structures and processes, and make design decisions that affect the internal and external teams building on PayPal’s APIs.Role Impact:\nServe as a senior engineer and subject matter expert for the API Management platform.\nOwn the design, implementation, and operational health of core APIM components, including governance, lifecycle, security, and observability capabilities.\nContribute to the technical roadmap by assessing implementation alternatives, trade-offs, and recommendations.\nMentor engineers at all levels and advise senior leaders on platform systems, challenges, and strategy.\nOwn availability and performance of the platform and participate in on-call and incident response.\nJob Description:\nEssential Responsibilities:\nActs as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system\nDetermines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow\nActions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives\nProactively improves existing structures & processes\nExercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems\nNotices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions\nCollaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor\nTrusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations\nMinimum Qualifications:\n5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.\nAdditional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:\nBachelor’s and/or master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent experience. \n8+ years of experience with Java, Python, or an equivalent high-level programming language.\nDeep experience designing and operating APIs at scale: GraphQL, REST, gRPC, API gateways, rate limiting, authentication and authorization (OAuth2/OIDC), versioning, and deprecation, validation framework.\nExperience with API management products or gateway platforms.\nAdvanced skills with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores, caching solutions such as Redis, and messaging/queueing systems such as Kafka or SQS. \nExpertise building fault-tolerant, scalable distributed services on public cloud, preferably GCP or AWS. \nExperience managing infrastructure as code using Terraform. \nExperience with observability, SLOs, and developer-facing platform products. \nAbility to lead projects and influence across Product, Security, Engineering Operations, and partner engineering teams. \nSubsidiary:\nPayPalTravel Percent:\n0-\nThe base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring.
