Every system is carefully engineered, manufactured, and assembled using proven components and industry-recognized practices to ensure consistent performance in demanding environments.\nThe Mechanical Designer is responsible for the detailed design and 3D modeling of switchgear and power distribution products. Working under the technical guidance of the Mechanical Engineering Lead, this role transforms high-level concepts into manufacturing-ready drawing packages. The Designer ensures all outputs are accurate, feasible, and strictly adhere to RIC Power /Panelmatic design standards and Quality Management System (QMS).\nJob Responsibilities:\nCreate and maintain 3D models, parts, assemblies, and construction drawings using SolidWorks\nGenerate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) to support manufacturing, procurement, and costing\nWork within established drawing standards, document control procedures, and PDM systems\nMaintain and update existing parts and assembly drawings, converting them into fabrication-ready drawings for production\nReview mechanical designs for manufacturability, cost effectiveness, tolerance stack-up, and ease of assembly\nParticipate in internal design reviews and contribute practical, production-focused solutions\nCollaborate closely with electrical designers and engineers to ensure proper mechanical-electrical integration\nApply applicable codes and standards, including CSA, UL, IEEC, and internal company standards\nEnsure mechanical designs support regulatory compliance and safety requirements\nWork with the production team to develop assembly details, work instructions, and build sequences for complex assemblies\nreview vendor drawings and technical documentation for accuracy and compatibility\nInteract with vendors and suppliers to integrate purchased components into designs\nSupport engineering change processes (ECR/ECO) and maintain accurate revision control\nAssist with troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues during fabrication, assembly, and testing\nProvide informal technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior designers as required.\nRequirements\nExceptional attention to detail and accuracy \nStrong proficiency with SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD platform\nProven experience with sheet metal design and industrial enclosure fabrication\nExperience designing structural members, frames, and heavy-duty assemblies\nSolid understanding of manufacturing processes \nKnowledge of tolerance stack-ups, fit, and function\nAbility to interpret electrical schematics and understand interface requirements\n Experience working within PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM)\nProficiency with Microsoft Excel for BOMs, calculations, and engineering data tracking\n Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills\nProactive problem-solving mindset with a focus on practical solutions\nAbility to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment\nAsset: Experience with FEA analysis (static and/or dynamic) \nEngineering degree or technical diploma (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, AScT)\nEligibility or registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) as a P.Eng. or EIT is an asset\n3- 5 years of experience in a mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing environment\nDemonstrated ability to produce mechanical general arrangement (GA) drawings and detailed part and assembly drawings\nExperience
