business problems, existing workflows, and system functionality to identify root causes, gaps, and improvement opportunities.\nLead discovery discussions with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand business needs, challenge assumptions, and distinguish underlying problems from proposed solutions.\nEvaluate business processes, system capabilities, data flows, and operational dependencies to develop a comprehensive understanding of requirements.\nApply structured analysis and critical thinking to assess potential solutions, trade-offs, risks, and downstream impacts.\nRecommend practical, scalable solutions that balance business value, technical feasibility, and operational effectiveness.\nSolution Development & Collaboration\nPartner with technical and functional experts to explore solution alternatives and define approaches that address business challenges.\nCollaborate with software development, UX, QA, curriculum, and operations teams to ensure activities to ensure successful adoption.\nEducational Technology & Content Publishing\nAnalyze workflows related to digital curriculum, content publishing, course configuration, and distribution across educational platforms.\nCollaborate with curriculum, academic, and technology experts to understand publishing processes, system dependencies, and content lifecycle requirements.\nIdentify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of course management and content distribution.\nEvaluate workflows and integrations across Learning Management Systems (LMS), Student Information Systems (SIS), and other instructional technologies.\nSupport solution development involving course access, content availability, platform configuration, and system integrations.\nStakeholder Engagement & Communication\nBuild collaborative relationships with business leaders, customers, functional experts, and technical teams.\nFacilitate discussions that bring progress.\nPromote alignment between business objectives, user needs, and technical capabilities.\nKey Deliverables\nThe Business Analyst is expected to produce high-quality, actionable analysis and documentation that supports informed decision-making and successful solution delivery.\nBusiness Needs & Gap Analysis: Current-state assessments documenting business challenges, root causes, process gaps, and opportunities for improvement.\nSolution Analysis & Recommendations: Evaluations of potential approaches, technical feasibility, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs, with clear recommendations.\nBusiness & Functional Requirements: Well-defined requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and functional specifications.\nProcess & Workflow Documentation: Current-state and future-state process maps, workflows, system interactions, and supporting diagrams.\nSolution Design Documentation: Functional solution definitions developed in partnership with technical and functional experts, including business rules, integration considerations, and edge cases.\nImpact & Dependency Analysis: Assessments of downstream impacts across systems, processes, stakeholders, and user experiences.\nSolution Validation: Test scenarios, acceptance validation, identification of functional gaps, and confirmation that solutions meet business needs.\nImplementation & Knowledge Transfer: Functional documentation, process guidance, and knowledge resources supporting implementation, training, and adoption.\nAbout You\nRequired Qualifications & Skills\nExperience in business analysis, systems analysis, product development, or a related technology-focused role.\nExceptional analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently investigate complex challenges and develop actionable recommendations.\nDemonstrated ability to collaborate with technical and functional subject matter experts to evaluate problems and define effective solutions.\nExperience conducting requirements discovery, business process analysis, workflow modeling, and functional solution design.\nAbility to identify root causes, challenge assumptions, consider alternative approaches, and anticipate downstream impacts.\nStrong skills in documenting business and functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process workflows.\nUnderstanding of software development processes, system integrations, and application functionality.\nExperience with digital content publishing, curriculum management, or Learning Management Systems.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences.\nStrong organizational skills, attention to detail, independent judgment, and ability to manage competing priorities.\nSelf-motivated, inquisitive, collaborative, and comfortable working through ambiguity.\nPreferred Experience\nHands-on experience with Canvas LMS, including course configuration, content publishing, course management, or administrative workflows.\nExperience with Clever, including rostering, application access, and educational technology integrations.\nKnowledge of K-12 education, instructional workflows, curriculum operations, and school technology environments.\nExperience with digital content lifecycle management, including content creation, publishing, versioning, deployment, and distribution.\nFamiliarity with Student Information Systems, such as PowerSchool, and integrations across educational platforms.\nExperience working within Agile software development environments.\nWork Environment\nThis is a hybrid position requiring four days per week on-site in our McLean, VA office. The position requires frequent collaboration with business stakeholders, technical teams, and functional experts, with a strong emphasis on analytical problem-solving, solution development, and execution.\nCompensation and Benefits:The compensation and benefits information below is accurate as of the date of this posting.
