Our focus is on capturing civilizational levels of ultra-low-cost renewable energy for applications including computing and affordable renewable fuels delivered to shore.\nThe company is a public benefit corporation headquartered in Portland, Oregon, and backed by leading venture capitalists, philanthropic investors, university endowments, and private investment offices. We operate as an idea meritocracy in which the best ideas change the company’s direction on a regular basis.\nOur staff have worked at organizations such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Boeing, Tesla, Apple, Virgin Orbit, Astra, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, New Relic, Bridgewater, Raytheon, Disney Imagineering, and the US Army and Air Force, as well as research universities, startups, and small companies across a range of industries.\nAbout the Job\nOur core technology is the node, a device that produces energy in the ocean’s harshest conditions for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention.\nThis role would exist in the Core Systems Integration & Test team. As the Internal Harness & Interconnect Engineer, you will own the dry-side nervous system of our node technology. You will be responsible for the architecture, physical hardening, and end-to-end delivery of all internal wiring, cabling, and interconnects across the entire system. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our Electrical Engineering and Core Systems & Software teams, manage external manufacturing partners, and serve as the go-to technical authority on the shop floor when diagnosing and resolving integration issues. Your work will directly dictate the reliability and signal integrity of critical computing and power systems operating in continuous, uncrewed maritime environments.\nCandidates should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to thrive in a creative, scrappy, and collaborative environment in which the best ideas change the company’s direction on a regular basis. You will own your designs cradle-to-grave, from first concept through fabrication and deployment at sea. If you are an excellent engineer, regardless of your background, we want you to apply.\nWe strive to be the best engineering team on the planet and we compensate our team accordingly.\nResponsibilities\nBe a leading contributor on the complete interconnection lifecycle for all dry-side node electronics - including connector selection, harness routing, wire termination, backshell integration, potting, strain relief, and mechanical retention.\nDevelop and standardize robust harness assembly workflows (crimping, soldering, potting, connectorization, and continuity/hipot testing) to ensure repeatable, high-yield builds from prototype to production.\nEmbed Design for Excellence (DFX) into every harness iteration:\nDFM: Simplify connector counts, standardize keying/polarization, and optimize routing to eliminate mis-mates and reduce assembly cycle time.\nDFT: Integrate automated continuity test points and derating strategies to survive continuous thermal-mechanical stress and high-vibration ocean environments.\nArchitect clean signal and power pathways, eliminating electromagnetic interference, crosstalk, and ground loops between high speed data channels and power lines.\nManage the interconnect BOM and vendor pipeline driving procurement, tolerance analysis, second-sourcing, and obsolescence mitigation for future node architecture rollouts.\nDrive quality verification and shop-floor triage, leading first article inspections and serving as the primary technical authority to debug electrical interconnect anomalies during system integration.\nRequired Qualifications\nDemonstrated capability in designing, packaging, and documenting complex wiring harnesses and interconnect assemblies for high-reliability systems (e.g., aerospace, marine, automotive, robotics, industrial automation or other harsh environments).\nDeep technical knowledge of connector families (e.g., Phoenix, Amphenol, Deutsch, Molex), specialized wire insulation/jacketing materials, and cable shielding techniques.\nDemonstrated track record diagnosing and resolving noise, grounding, and signal integrity artifacts in mixed data/power cabling architectures.\nProficiency in wire harness design software (e.g., Zuken E3.series, RapidHarness, or equivalents).\nHands-on expertise with harness fabrication, crimp validation, rework tools, and diagnostic instrumentation (DMMs, oscilloscopes, TDRs, insulation testers/meggers).\nDesired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent field.\nFamiliarity with industry manufacturing standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Class 3) or high-reliability aerospace/military equivalents.\nExperience designing interconnects for sealed enclosures, pressure vessels, or chassis exposed to rigorous shock, vibration, and thermal cycling environments.\nExperience with high-speed data transmission (Ethernet, RF, high-speed differential pairs), fiber optic terminations, or high-voltage DC distribution.\nFamiliarity with automated wire processing equipment and automated harness test systems (e.g., Cirris, CableEye).\nProven track record establishing vendor second-sourcing and qualification pipelines for custom cable assemblies and specialized interconnect hardware.\nDirect work with hand\nThe above qualifications are desired, not required. We encourage you to apply if you are a strong candidate with only some of the desired skills and experience listed.\nAdditional Requirements\nTravel to vendors and test sites as needed\nIntermittently able to work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs. While we expect a lot of each other, we also offer a high degree of autonomy and work-life balance, including flexiblePTO and flexible working hours.\nCompensation and Benefits\nIf hired for this full-time role, you will receive:\nCash compensation of $125,000 - $175,000.\nEquity in the company. We’re all owners and if we’re successful, this equity should be far and away the most valuable component of your compensation.\nA benefits package that helps you take care of yourself and your family, including:Flexible paid time off\nHealth insurance (the company pays 100% of gold-level PPO plan for full-time employees, their partners, and dependents)\nDental insurance (the company pays 100% for full-time employees, their partners, and dependents)\nVision insurance (the company pays 100% for full-time employees, their partners, and dependents)\nDisability insurance (the company pays 100% for a policy to provide long-term financial support if you become disabled)\nAbility to contribute to tax-advantaged accounts, including 401(k), health FSA, and dependent care FSA\n\nRelocation assistance to facilitate your move to Portland (if needed).\nLocation\nThis is an on-site position. Our offices, lab, and shop are located in Portland, Oregon.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7071,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Dental insurance","Equity","Flexible schedule","Health insurance","Relocation assistance","Vision insurance"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Data Centers & Colocation","Marine & Ocean Engineering","AI Compute & Inference"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-16T04:04:08Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":3,"expected_fill_days":82,"reasons":["conf:2","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-19T05:45:15Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":175000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/panthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/panthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-19T19:43:53Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":15610,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-20T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":10611},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=10611"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fpanthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fpanthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fpanthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/panthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fpanthalassa-internal-harness-and-interconnect-engineer"}]}
