Product and stakeholders define the business objectives, intent, and outcomes- The Business Analyst works with the development team to ensure those objectives are understood, explored, and translated into clear, feasible, and testable requirements.\nThe role enables teams to understand what is being asked so they can design and implement appropriate solutions. The Business Analyst operates within the development function, collaborating closely with developers, QA, architects, and the Team Leader throughout discovery, refinement, and delivery.\nIn addition to traditional analysis responsibilities, the Business Analyst helps teams explore opportunities to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of product solutions or internal workflows.\nThe role focuses on enabling clarity, improving shared understanding, and reducing ambiguity, not on defining product strategy or controlling delivery.\n Key accountabilities\nShared Understanding and Requirement Exploration\nWorks with Product and stakeholders to understand objectives, outcomes, constraints, and context. \nEnables the development team to understand what is being asked by exploring requirements collaboratively. \nFacilitates workshops, discussions, and discovery sessions to help teams reason about the problem space. \nSurfaces assumptions, contradictions, edge cases, and dependencies that may affect implementation. \nSupports the team in building a shared understanding of the problem and the solution. \n Requirement Analysis and Modelling\nAnalyses requirements to identify missing details, risks, and potential impacts. \nModels functional flows, states, business processes, and interactions. \nHelps articulate acceptance criteria and behavioural expectations together with developers and QA. \nDocuments requirements, flows, and context as part of ongoing collaboration with the team. \nMaintains traceability between objectives, requirements, stories, and validation criteria. \n Development Readiness and Refinement Support\nSupports refinement activities by helping the team explore scope, edge cases, and constraints. \nHelps ensure user stories are clear, testable, and understood before entering development. \nMaintains visibility of requirement clarity and readiness. \nContributes to improving backlog structure and context without owning prioritisation. \nSupports teams in understanding requirement changes and their potential impact. \n Collaboration with Engineering Teams\nCollaborates daily with developers, QA, architects, and Team Leaders. \nSupports technical discussions to identify constraints, dependencies, and feasibility considerations early. \nProvides domain and requirement context when questions arise during development. \nFacilitates alignment between Product, Architecture, QA, and Development. \n AI-Enabled Analysis and Opportunity Exploration\nHelps teams explore opportunities where Artificial Intelligence can enhance product capabilities or internal processes. \nSupports problem framing in ways that may allow AI-assisted solutions such as automation, classification, prediction, or recommendation. \nWorks with architects and developers to evaluate AI-enabled approaches within system constraints. \nUses AI tools to support analysis, documentation, and knowledge exploration. \nPromotes awareness of AI capabilities and limitations within the team. \n Continuous Improvement of Analysis Practices\nContributes to improving requirement clarity and backlog hygiene. \nSupports the team in reducing ambiguity and preventing rework. \nEncourages collaborative analysis practices that strengthen team autonomy. \nHelps evolve analysis workflows to incorporate modern tools, including AI-assisted analysis where appropriate. \n What the Role Does NOT Own\nThe Business Analyst role does not:\nDefine product objectives, priorities, or roadmaps. \nDecide what features should be built. \nApprove architecture or technical solutions. \nManage delivery timelines or team capacity. \nAct as a gatekeeper preventing work from entering development. \nInstead, the role supports shared understanding so teams can make informed decisions and deliver effectively.\nThe Business Analyst plays a key role in enabling shared understanding between Product, stakeholders, and engineering teams. By bridging business intent with technical execution, the role ensures that objectives are clearly understood, explored, and translated into actionable, testable requirements.\nWorking closely within the development function, the Business Analyst supports teams throughout discovery, refinement, and delivery, helping reduce ambiguity and improve clarity across all stages.
