Unleash your talent and redefine what’s possible.Job Description:\nParsons is seeking an Environmental Field Technician for a highly field-based role supporting environmental investigation, remediation, monitoring, and infrastructure redevelopment projects throughout Ontario.\nWhat You'll Be Doing:\nThe successful candidate should expect to spend the majority of their working time at project sites rather than in an office. The position requires regular travel, including overnight and extended out-of-town assignments, with hotel stays throughout Ontario. Some projects may also require night, evening, and weekend work to accommodate site conditions, construction schedules, environmental programs, or client requirements.\nThe Environmental Field Technician will work independently in a variety of field environments, including active construction, industrial, remediation, and environmentally impacted sites.\nThis role is best suited to a resourceful and adaptable professional who is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, travelling frequently, staying away from home, and responding to changing field priorities.\nYour key responsibilities include:\nSupervise subcontractors associated with environmental field programs, including Site Remediation programs (Environmental excavations and implementation of various in-situ remediation techniques).\nOversee health and safety for Parsons’ and subcontract staff on remediation and environmental investigation programs.\nSupport contract administration of remediation programs including tracking: schedule, size of excavation, tonnages of soils moving on and off site, amount of chemical injection, sub contractor’s labour and equipment hours and any contract quantities associated with the project.\nWork closely with project coordinators/managers, using your interpersonal and organizational skills, to communicate project data findings and timelines to ensure projects are completed on time and budget.\nComplete monitoring and groundwater sampling programs utilizing a wide variety of field equipment.\nSoil and sediment sample recovery, field testing, and documentation during drilling, test pitting and excavation activities.\nMaintain excellent field notes, including safety forms, project field reports, and laboratory chain-of-custody forms.\nOperation of various types of field monitoring equipment (e.g. GPS, data loggers, survey level, combustible gas meters, etc.).\nAlways ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites and on all projects.\nPerform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.\nWhat Required Skills You'll Bring:\nDiploma in earth sciences, environmental technology and engineering applications, engineering or similar programs and typically 4+ years of applicable field experience as a field technician supporting environmental assessment / remediation and/or infrastructure redevelopment projects (or equivalent combination of education and experience)\nExperience with supervising drilling, collecting and logging soil samples, collecting groundwater and surface water samples, and overseeing remediation.\nValid Canadian driver’s license and access to personal vehicle\nExcellent written and oral communications skills and ability to operate self-sufficiently and safely in the field\nThis work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities so willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions should be expected\nThe ability to work on out-of-town assignments for extended periods of time.\nOral communications skills and ability to operate self-sufficiently in the field.\nResourceful, quick thinking and handy, ability to solve technical problems in the field\nWhat Desired Skills You'll Bring:\nCertified as or ability to be certified as Environmental Technician (C.E.T)\nExperience with Designated and Hazardous Substance Surveys an Abatement\nExperience with Excess Soils management\nAcademic and practical experience with soil classification\nThis position is part of our Critical Infrastructure team.For more than 80 years, our experts have designed and delivered the critical infrastructure that connects and protects communities around the world.
