Unleash your talent and redefine what’s possible.Job Description:\nWe are seeking a talented Student Intern to join us on Segment 03:\nHealth & Safety: Promote a strong safety culture by participating in toolbox talks, site inspections, and safety meetings. Ensure compliance with MIP’s safety policies and Alberta OHS regulations.\nQuality Assurance: Support inspections and testing to ensure work meets project standards. Assist with interpreting drawings, specifications, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs). Help identify and resolve deficiencies.\nPlanning & Coordination: Participate in daily readiness reviews and weekly planning meetings. Coordinate construction activities, inspections, survey needs, and concrete placements. Maintain accurate records for progress tracking.\nOperational Tasks:\nComplete ParaDIM Daily Log for assigned operations.\nCoordinate and attend testing and inspections with Construction Field Coordinators, Quality Coordinators, and/or third-party agencies (e.g., concrete surface preparation, rebar inspections, formwork inspections, post-pour inspections).\nManage survey needs including layout, grade checks, pre-pour and post-pour as-builts.\nCoordinate inspection, testing, documentation, and quality checklists as part of ITPs.\nSchedule and coordinate concrete placements, including pour notifications, pumps, and testers.\nParticipate in Three-Week Look Ahead Meetings and weekly subcontractor progress meetings.\nSubmit PO requisitions for materials and maintain accurate files on SharePoint.\nConduct safety inspections and identify safety opportunities (minimum one per week).\nCollaborate with other MIP teams (Utilities, Civil, Facilities) to manage work interfaces\nRequired Knowledge and Experience\nCurrently enrolled in a university or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.\nExperience in the construction industry is a strong asset.\nClass 5 DL (GDL acceptable)\nExcellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills.\nStrong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.\nOrganizational and time management skills.\nAbility to prioritize and multi-task/ Service orientated.\nThrive on a fast-paced environment.\nResponsibilities:\nAdaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.\nCoordinate and attend direct and independent testing and inspections as required, in conjunction with Construction Field Coordinators, Quality Coordinators, and/or third-party agency (e.g. concrete surface preparation, rebar inspections, formwork inspections, post-pour inspections, etc.)\nCoordinate all survey needs as required, including layout, grade, plumbness checks, pre-pour survey checks, post-pour as-builts, etc.\nCoordinate inspection, testing, submittal of documentation and completion of quality checklists as part of the Inspection and Test Plans.\nCoordinate concrete placements as required by issuing pour notifications (minimum 48 hours notice), scheduling concrete pumps as required, scheduling concrete and concrete testers.\nWeekly Duties\nPartake in Three-Week Look Ahead Meetings with the General Superintendent and Construction Field Coordinators\nSubmit PO Requisitions for ordering materials as required.\nAttend and partake in weekly Subcontractor Progress Meetings\nAttend Weekly Operations Meetings\nSafety Inspections - minimum 1 per week\nSafety Opportunities - minimum 1 per week\nCoordinate and work interfaces as required with other MIP teams, e.g. Utilities, Civil, Facilities, etc.\nEnsure files are kept up to date and maintain within filing system on SharePoint.\nThis position is part of our Critical Infrastructure team.For more than 80 years, our experts have designed and delivered the critical infrastructure that connects and protects communities around the world.
