Sydney, CBD

Permanent, Full Time

  • Sydney CBD location, leading a high-performing custody team.
  • Genuine opportunity to shape and grow OIG's custody function.
  • Be a key to driving OIG's impact on Australia's wealth infrastructure

About Us

Established in 2009, One Investment Group (OIG) is Australia's leading independent funds management business, providing a comprehensive suite of services across responsible entity, trustee, corporate trust, custody, fund administration, registry and corporate secretarial solutions. Renowned for its client-first approach, OIG supports a diverse range of clients including investment managers, financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurers and banks.

Built on a foundation of organic growth, strong client partnerships and operational excellence, OIG has developed a reputation as a trusted provider across a broad range of asset classes, including real estate, infrastructure, private equity, credit, mortgages, hedge funds and equities. The business is underpinned by deep expertise across funds management, capital markets, corporate governance and fiduciary services, enabling it to deliver tailored solutions to an increasingly sophisticated client base.

As OIG continues to evolve, the business is undergoing an exciting transformation across its wealth infrastructure division, creating a unique opportunity for an experienced custody professional to play a key role in shaping the future of the function. This role offers more than just operational leadership; it provides the opportunity to be directly involved in business transformation, change management initiatives, process improvement and technology enhancements as OIG continues to strengthen and expand its market-leading capabilities.

The Opportunity

In this role you will lead OIG’s Custody Services function, responsible for the comprehensive, day-to-day delivery of custody across all schemes and clients serviced. Reporting directly into the Head of Corporate Trustee Services, you will oversee the Custodian for applicable Trustees, responsible entities and other regulated entities, holding legal title to scheme assets and acting only on proper client instructions.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will own the operational framework for asset safekeeping and segregation, oversee custody banking and cash operations and lead a high-performing team of professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Joining our Corporate Trust team means stepping into a dynamic, fast-growth environment at the centre of OIG’s custody and compliance framework. If you are looking to bring your technical expertise to a senior leadership role, OIG offers the platform to grow within a culture that values Integrity, Partnership, and Exceptional Service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive, day-to-day delivery of OIG’s Custody Services capability across all schemes and clients serviced.
  • Directly oversee the Custodian services for applicable Trustees, responsible entities and other regulated entities, holding legal title to scheme assets and acting only on proper client instructions.
  • Own the operational framework for asset safekeeping and segregation, including title registration and perfection of assets (e.g. PPSR, PEXA) and physical custody of deeds, bank guarantees and other title documents.
  • Oversee all custody banking and cash operations, including scheme cash and money market accounts, online banking and RTGS facilities, and processing of payments.
  • Oversee execution of legal documentation within custody’s remit, including leases, sale and purchase contracts, debt facility documents, subscription documents and transfer forms.
  • Own the custody compliance and assurance cycle, including quarterly compliance reporting and asset confirmations, and the annual GS007 control environment audit.
  • Oversee and lead global custody arrangements maintained through correspondent/partner banks (e.g. Bank of New York).
  • Maintain a robust custody risk and control framework, including reconciliations, exception management and segregation of duties.
  • Build and lead a high-performing custody team (~4), capable of delivering current and future service needs.
  • Manage the custody function’s budget and resourcing, as part of the broader Corporate Trustee Services budget.
  • Support the Head of Corporate Trustee Services on transactions, including custody input into new deal structuring and execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement in custody processes and systems, including automation and workflow tools.

Requirements

We are looking for a collaborative and technically strong Head of Custody who has the ability to lead a team through a changing regulatory environment and can successfully engage with stakeholders at all levels.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications, with a Financial Services background; CA/CPA qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Industry qualifications relevant to custody/trustee services highly regarded.
  • At least 10 years’ experience within Financial Services, including custody, trustee or funds management operations.
  • Several years’ experience leading and developing a team of comparable size.
  • Deep technical knowledge of custody operations, including asset safekeeping and segregation, title registration/perfection (PPSR, PEXA), and trust banking and payments.
  • Sound understanding of managed investment scheme structures (registered and unregistered) and trustee/responsible entity obligations.
  • Experience managing custody-specific regulatory and control assurance processes (e.g. GS007 or equivalent).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent commercial awareness.
  • Strong Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
