Our employees enjoy challenging projects in the development and manufacture of light scattering particle counters and diverse technologies and applications.\nYour Impact\nWe are seeking a Senior Sustaining Engineer to support the lifecycle of Particle Measuring Systems’ deployed products and solutions. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product reliability, resolving complex technical issues, and driving continuous product improvement. This position requires strong technical troubleshooting capability, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate field feedback into actionable product improvements.\nThe Role\nThe Senior Sustaining Engineer acts as a technical escalation point for field and service teams, partnering closely with R&D, product management, quality, and customer support organizations to diagnose issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain product performance in the field.\nJob Responsibilities\nServe as Level 3 technical escalation for complex product and system issues impacting customers or field service teams\nInvestigate product failures and field issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies\nWork closely with R&D engineering teams to identify design-related issues and implement corrective actions\nDrive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to resolve recurring product or system issues\nSupport engineering change processes including design updates, firmware revisions, and product improvements\nAnalyze field data, service reports, and reliability trends to identify systemic product issues\nDevelop technical documentation including troubleshooting guides, service bulletins, and engineering change recommendations\nProvide technical guidance and mentoring to service engineers and junior engineering staff\nCollaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Product Management teams to improve product performance and serviceability\nParticipate in product lifecycle management activities including sustaining engineering reviews and reliability improvement initiatives Resolve technical and tactical issues through structured problem-solving and collaboration\nCommunicate progress on resolutions to internal stakeholders and help with customer management as required\nContinuously evaluate processes for improvements in efficiency, quality, and safety\nThis job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Responsibilities may evolve over time, and other related duties may be assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the company.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of relevant engineering experience supporting complex systems, instrumentation, or automation technologies; OR equivalent combination of education and experience\nExperience supporting fielded products or sustaining engineering activities\nDemonstrated success diagnosing complex technical issues across hardware, software, and system integrations\nProficiency in coding and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or similar) aimed at accelerating troubleshooting activities, identifying effective workarounds, and reducing engineering effort required for bug fixing\nStrong problem-solving skills using structured methodologies such as 8D, A3, or RCA\nExperience supporting complex instrumentation or automation systems in production environments\nAbility to interpret system architectures, control schematics, and communication protocols\nExperience working with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC UA\nUnderstanding of regulated manufacturing environments (GMP, GAMP, FDA, Annex 1 preferred)\nStrong collaboration and communication skills across engineering and customer support teams\nAbility to mentor junior engineers and guide technical problem-solving activities\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience working in regulated or controlled manufacturing environments\nWork Environment & Physical Requirements\nThis role primarily operates in an office/lab/manufacturing environment.
