In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate effectively with colleagues and cross-functional teams,demonstratestrong problem-solving and decision-making skills, andmaintaina commitment to professional excellence,qualityand continuous improvement.\nThe Role\nAs a Staff Firmware Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical contributor within R&D, developing embedded firmware for Particle Measuring Systems’ advanced instruments across the full product lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust, scalable, and secure firmware solutions, while providing technical leadership through architecture, design reviews, mentorship, and continuous improvement of development processes and tools. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, clear technical communication, and a commitment to quality, reliability, and engineering excellence.\nJob Responsibilities\nLead and/orparticipatein an Agile Scrum team, completing firmware work items in areas including communications interfaces, GUI interfaces and particle counting code.\n\nDrive requirements discovery and decision-making, partneringwithinternal and externalstakeholdersto capture, clarify, and prioritize business, customer, and technical needs;develop design and engineering reference documentation.\n\nManage, interpret,refine,and prioritizecomplexuserstories in the backlog; interfacing with the teamand withmanagement stakeholders to understand customer needs and technical needs and to discover and implementappropriate resolutionsof items.\n\nArchitectcomplexreusable solutions using object-oriented design in C++ or Rust.\n\nContinuously improve firmware development processes and tools,identifyinggaps, proposing solutions, and driving adoption to increase quality and efficiency across the team.\n\nProvideexperttechnical leadershipfor firmwareteam,mentoring engineers through structured feedback, design reviews, training, and hands-on collaboration.\n\nServe as a cross-functional technical leader, proactivelyinterfacingacrossengineering, marketing,manufacturingand serviceto ensure firmware solutions meetproductrequirements.\n\nThis job description is not intended to beall-inclusive. Responsibilities may evolve over time, and other related duties may be assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the company.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, ComputerEngineeringor Computer Science.\n\nTen or more years of embedded firmware development experience.\n\nTenor more years of experience as a technical lead or similar.\n\nExperience serving asScrumMaster or Product Owner in an Agile environment.\n\nExperience gathering and authoring requirements.\n\nDemonstratedtrack recordof process and tool improvement within an engineering environment.\n\nStrong C++ or Rust programming language skills.\n\nObject-oriented design skills.\n\nDevelopment experience with Embedded Linux at Application level.\n\nExperience implementing software version control and bug tracking systems.\n\nAbility to read and understand schematic diagrams.\n\nExperience in cyber security.\n\nDemonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineers.\n\nExcellent communication skills.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nCertified Scrum Master or Product Owner.\n\nC programming language experience.\n\nExpertisein Git, Jira,DevSuite, Jama, or similar.\n\nStrong experience with QT, LinuxKerneland driver development.\n\nARM-based SoC firmware design.\n\nExperience with TCP/IP,WiFiand Bluetooth protocol development.\n\nAI and ML algorithm selection and application.\n\nWork Environment & Physical Requirements\nThis role primarilyoperatesin an office/lab/manufacturing environment.\n\nMustbe able to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time.\n\nThis is a hybrid position, “in-office” approximately 50% of the time.\n\nOccasional lifting of up to20lbs.may berequired.\n\nReasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.\n\nCompensation & Benefits\nCompetitive base salary range:$150000 - 165000\n\nOur compensation philosophy:we offer competitive pay based on market data, including local, national, and industry benchmarks.
