We focus on our customers and are proud of the difference our technology makes. We partner with some of the biggest manufacturing companies in the world and our technical innovations are used to enhance well-known brands across multiple industries.\nTitle Systems Engineering Manager\nDepartment Engineering - Development\nLocation Niwot/Hybrid\nReports To Director of Engineering\nAbout Us\nEstablished in 1972, Particle Measuring Systems is a global leader for micro-contamination monitoring equipment improving the performance of clean manufactures in the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries. We’re a growing technology company in Niwot, Colorado, the heart of the Rocky Mountains. We offer an exceptional and rewarding work environment in a great place to live. Our employees enjoy challenging projects in the development and manufacture of light scattering particle counters and diverse technologies and applications.\nYour Impact\nWe are looking for a Systems Engineering Manager who will lead a multi-disciplinary team of systems engineers, system test engineers, and optical engineers while serving as the system-level technical authority for our instrumentation products. In this role, the successful candidate will build and develop the team, collaborate effectively with colleagues and cross-functional teams, demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and maintain a commitment to professional excellence, quality and continuous improvement.\nThe Role\nWe are seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to lead the systems engineering function for complex, multi-disciplinary instrumentation products. This is a player-coach role: the manager leads a multi-disciplinary team of systems engineers, system test engineers, and optical engineers, and also serves as the system-level technical authority, driving system architecture, integration, and verification across the full product lifecycle. This position is foundational in strengthening and scaling systems engineering within the organization, and operates in coordination with other functional managers and project managers within a matrix stage-gate product development environment.\nBecause the core performance and testability of our optical particle counters are determined at the interface of optics, photonics, and the detection signal chain, the role carries explicit design authority over system architecture, requirements, and verification adequacy, and is empowered to make and arbitrate cross-functional technical trade-off decisions across the optical, electrical, firmware, software, and mechanical disciplines. With the optical engineering team reporting into this role, a background in optics and photonics - or in systems whose performance is governed by complex optical subsystems - is central to success in the position.\nJob Responsibilities\nPeople and Functional Leadership\nLead, develop, and grow a multi-disciplinary team of systems engineers, system test engineers, and optical engineers, including recruitment, mentoring, training, and evaluation.\nSet annual and ongoing goals and objectives for team members. Write and conduct annual appraisals, actively assessing the team’s needs and gaps, and maintain succession plans for critical roles.\nDefine core competencies and functional strategy for the systems, system test, and optical engineering disciplines in support of overall business strategy. Plan skill evolution to meet strategic needs.\nDefine functional headcount requirements and assign staff to projects. Define and oversee functional outsourcing and resource sharing arrangements to meet business needs.\nEstablish and evolve systems engineering processes, tools, and best practices across the organization. Own requirements governance and system-level knowledge capture and continuity, ensuring architecture rationale, interfaces, and verification evidence are documented and retained across programs.\nCoordinate and collaborate with other functional managers, project managers, and product line managers within the matrix stage-gate product development environment.\nTechnical Leadership\nOwn system architecture development, including decomposition, interface definition, and performance budgeting across subsystems.\nServe as the system-level technical authority with clear decision rights: decide system architecture, interface definitions, and verification adequacy; recommend trade-offs that affect cost, schedule, and scope to program and portfolio leadership; and resolve cross-discipline technical disputes through the engineering leadership chain.\nLead requirements engineering and maintain full traceability from customer needs through verification (JAMA or equivalent).\nDrive system-level integration strategy and execution, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Identify and mitigate cross-functional risks and integration gaps early in development.\nOwn system-level verification and validation through the system test team, including integration planning, test strategy, and performance characterization.\nEnsure alignment of subsystem design - including optical subsystem design - with overall system performance and interface definitions.\nLead root cause analysis of complex system issues using analytical modeling and experimental methods. Ensure systems meet requirements across all operating conditions.\nLead technical trade studies, hazard analyses, and system-level risk assessments (DFMEA).\nPartner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to support design transfer, production ramp, and sustaining engineering.\nParticipate in design reviews, technical planning, and compliance with engineering and quality standards.\nMentor engineers and promote strong systems thinking across disciplines. Continuously evaluate processes for improvements in efficiency, quality, and safety.\nThis job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Responsibilities may evolve over time, and other related duties may be assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the company.\nRequired Qualifications\nBS in Engineering/Scientific discipline (Systems, Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Computer Science) required. MS or PhD preferred.\n10+ years experience in complex instrumentation or precision product development environments with specific experience of real time systems, optics and sensors, electro-mechanics, laser light scattering, imaging systems, and/or related subsystems.\n3+ years of functional management, people leadership, or formal technical team leadership experience.\nExperience operating as a system-level integrator across multiple engineering disciplines.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in modelling and experimental validation.\nExperience with requirements management tools (JAMA, DOORS, etc.).\nProficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and QBD methodology, e.g. LEAN, DMAIC, DFSS, DBS, etc.\nKnowledge of control systems, sensor integration, signal processing, and embedded systems.\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrongly preferred: background in optics and photonics, or in the development of systems whose performance is governed by complex optical subsystems, including an understanding of the optical-to-electrical detection signal chain (detectors, analog front-end, signal conditioning, and FPGA/digital signal processing) and how it governs measurement performance and testability.\nAdvanced degree in Engineering, Optics, or Physics.\nExperience managing or leading system test or verification teams, including test strategy and automation.\nDemonstrated experience leading system architecture and integration on cross-functional programs.\nExperience helping establish or mature systems engineering practices within an organization.\nExperience in regulated or high-reliability industries (medical device, semiconductor, aerospace).\nWorking knowledge of stage/phase-gate and Agile product development processes.\nWork Environment & Physical Requirements\n· This role primarily operates in an office/lab/manufacturing environment. Must be able to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time\n· Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. may be required\n· Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role\nCompensation & Benefits\n· Competitive base salary range: $120000 - 177000 depending on experience\no Our compensation philosophy: we offer competitive pay based on market data, including local, national, and industry benchmarks. For new hires, offers are generally within the established min- to mid-point of the range for the role, with flexibility to recognize experience, skills, and education. Our approach ensures fair pay internally while remaining competitive externally and allows room for growth.\n· Comprehensive benefits package:\no Health coverage: medical, dental, vision, fsa, onsite clinic (CO employees), life insurance\no 401(k) retirement plan with company match\no Vacation, holiday, and leave policies\no Tuition reimbursement, Employee recognition programs, Employee assistance programs\nParticle Measuring Systems is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and are committed to building an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.","description_format":"text","description_chars":9379,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":10,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Life insurance","Retirement plans"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Industrial Engineering","Digital Design","Travel Technology","Security Compliance"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-03T00:08:09Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":74,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.824,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":12,"expected_fill_days":20,"reasons":["conf:4","velocity","win:mid"],"computed_at":"2026-10-06T05:45:30Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":177000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/particle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/particle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-07T00:04:02Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":24,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4976,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-08T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":2310940},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=2310940"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fparticle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fparticle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fparticle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/particle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fparticle-measuring-systems-systems-engineering-manager"}]}
