This role exists to take that ownership off our current Lead Hardware Engineer's plate as the platform scope grows, with the electronics depth to keep pace on circuit and PCB work and the initiative to run with ambiguous problems.\nYou'll work closely with our COO/VP Engineering (EE background) and our firmware and systems engineering team, and directly with external partners - electrode patch suppliers, ISO 13485 test houses, and contract engineering firms. You'll own PCB schematic/layout work on test and prototype circuits, day-to-day supplier and test-house coordination, and the technical documentation that ties it together. This is a high-ownership role for someone ready to grow into more scope, not a narrowly-scoped component-selection job.\nPASCALL actively uses agentic AI tools to accelerate development, documentation, and hardware test workflows. We welcome engineers who are comfortable experimenting with AI-assisted workflows and applying them responsibly in a regulated environment.\nResponsibilities\nDesign & Characterize Circuits: Design, prototype, and characterize analog and mixed-signal circuits - filters, signal conditioning, and power management - supporting EEG signal acquisition.\n\nOwn PCB Schematic & Layout: Develop and iterate PCB schematics and layouts for test circuits and prototype hardware.\n\nSelect Components: Select and characterize electronic components against design requirements (tolerance, thermal, power).\n\nSupport Integration & Debug: Support hardware/firmware integration and debug across device sub-systems.\n\nManage Supplier Relationships: Own day-to-day relationships with electrode patch and other hardware suppliers - specs, quality issues, delivery tracking.\n\nCoordinate Test Houses: Coordinate testing schedules and deliverables with third-party ISO 13485 test houses.\n\nDesign & Run Experiments: Design and execute experiments to validate hardware performance, including use of physiological signal generators/simulators, and analyze resulting data.\n\nPerform QC Testing: Perform quality control testing using circuit-level analysis techniques.\n\nCoordinate Cross-Functionally: Coordinate hardware-related work across firmware, algorithms, and external consultants (mechanical design, contract engineering).\n\nDocument Rigorously: Produce and maintain technical documentation for designs, test protocols, and vendor specifications.\n\nAnalyze Data: Use Python (or similar) for basic data analysis and signal processing on test results.\n\nMentor Interns: Mentor interns on hardware fundamentals and lab practices as needed.\n\nUse AI-assisted tools (e.g., LLM-powered coding assistants, automated documentation) to accelerate development tasks.\n\nApply AI tools responsibly within PASCALL's regulated development environment.\n\nQualifications\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field\n\nExperience and Skills\n3-5 years of hands-on electronics/hardware engineering experience\n\nDemonstrated PCB schematic and layout experience\n\nStrong fundamentals in analog/mixed-signal circuit design - filters, signal conditioning, power management\n\nComfortable working directly with suppliers and vendors - specs, issue resolution, delivery tracking\n\nSelf-directed, with a track record of taking on increasing scope and responsibility\n\nComfort using AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude / Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor) for engineering and documentation work\n\nPreferred\nExperience with low-power or battery-powered wearable/biosignal-acquisition hardware\n\nExposure to ISO 13485 or other regulated medical device development environments\n\nFamiliarity with Python for data analysis or test automation\n\nAbout PASCALL Systems\nPASCALL is a Cambridge-based medical device company focused on advancing neuroscience-based personalized anesthesia monitoring.
