Final work location and arrangements will be confirmed. \nJOB DESCRIPTION\nWe are looking for a strong Python Software Engineer to build platform services for a modern data platform. This is a contract role for a product-minded backend engineer who enjoys developing reliable services, APIs and reusable software components.\nThe role focuses on advanced Python, platform engineering and secure access to services. Experience with every listed technology is not expected, but candidates should have a solid record of building and supporting production software.\nKey Responsibilities\n• Build and maintain production Python services, APIs and reusable libraries.\n• Develop integrations between platform services and other system components.\n• Implement authentication and authorisation using standards such as OAuth2 and OIDC, including role-based access control.\n• Support secure identity propagation across services and integrations.\n• Package and deploy applications using Docker and Kubernetes.\n• Contribute to testing, documentation, code quality and production support.\nRequirements\n• Relevant experience in backend software engineering, platform engineering or product engineering.\n• Strong hands-on Python experience building production applications, APIs or reusable software components.\n• Experience with both Docker and Kubernetes.\n• Working knowledge of authentication and access-control concepts such as OAuth2, OIDC, JWT or RBAC.\n• Able to explain software services or platform components you have personally designed or implemented.\n• Comfortable working on a contract basis and attending client locations when required.\nPreferred Experience\n• Building custom Python libraries or SDKs.\n• Implementing identity propagation across distributed systems.\n• Developing Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints.\n• Secure software development, automated testing and CI/CD.\nThis role is suited to a product-minded backend engineer.
