And we're leaders in that space, with:\n$10 billion+ generated by creators since Patreon's inception\n\n100 million+ free memberships for fans who may not be ready to pay just yet, and\n\n25 million+ paid memberships on Patreon today.\n\nWe're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator platform with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Director of Platform Engineering to support our mission.\nThis role is based in New York or San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model.\nAbout the Team\nWe’re looking for a Director of Platform Engineering to lead the teams responsible for the core infrastructure and platform services that power Patreon’s product and ecosystem.\nThis role is ideal for a senior engineering leader who has:\nScaled a consumer, UGC, or marketplace platform to millions of users\n\nLed infrastructure and/or platform teams supporting product engineering at scale\n\nOperated in environments with high availability, bursty traffic, and complex distributed systems\n\nYou’ll partner closely with Product, Security, Data, and Product Engineering leaders to ensure Patreon’s platform is reliable, scalable, and developer-friendly.\nAbout the Role\nLead and grow multiple Platform & Infrastructure Engineering teams, including backend services, APIs, developer platforms, reliability foundations and AI enablement\n\nOwn the technical strategy and roadmap for scaling Patreon’s platform as usage, content, and integrations grow\n\nDrive platform initiatives across:\nCore backend services & APIs\n\nService reliability, availability, and performance\n\nPlatform scalability and capacity planning\n\nInternal developer tooling and productivity\n\nPartner with product engineering teams to enable faster feature delivery while maintaining platform stability\n\nEstablish strong operational excellence (on-call, incident response, SLAs, SLOs)\n\nHire, develop, and mentor senior engineering managers and technical leaders\n\nCommunicate clearly with executives and cross-functional partners about risks, tradeoffs, and platform investments\n\nAbout You\nRequired:\n10+ years of engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering management\n\nExperience leading platform, infrastructure, or foundational backend teams\n\nProven track record scaling a consumer product, UGC platform, or marketplace to millions of users\n\nStrong background in distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architectures\n\nExperience operating production systems with high availability and performance requirements\n\nPreferred:\nBackground in developer platforms, internal tooling, or platform abstractions\n\nFamiliarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), data pipelines, and event-driven systems\n\nExperience leading through major architectural transitions or scale inflection points\n\nAbout Patreon\nPatreon powers creators to do what they love and get paid by the people who love what they do.
