Schumacher & Co., also known as FSCO, is the parent company to many brands within our portfolio.\nAbout the Role\nOur Finance department is looking to add a dynamic Payroll Lead to the Treasury team, reporting to the Treasury Manager. This role will play a key part in two transitions. First, you will help implement Rippling as our new payroll, corporate card, expense reimbursement, and travel system. Second, you will help close out a former entity in each state where it operates, partnering with Finance on final payment remittances. \nThis is a hands-on role: you will process every pay run, own payroll tax registration and reconciliation, keep employee records accurate, and manage the company’s corporate card, reimbursement, and travel programs. We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in payroll, finance, and design and who understands the nature of handling sensitive employee information. The ideal candidate is detail-driven, works independently from day one, and is comfortable in a period of change. \nThis position does not have direct reports, but this role is built to grow with the business in scope, team size, and influence on how payroll operates.\nKey Responsibilities \nEnd-to-end payroll processing (UKG) \nRun the full payroll cycle for 500+ employees, from data intake through final approval and funding. \nEnter all payroll transactions in UKG, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, bonuses, commission, incentives, deductions, garnishments and off-cycle payments. \nMaintain accurate employee profiles in UKG, including pay, tax, direct deposit and deduction setups. \nPrepare and review pre- and post-payroll audits and variance reports; resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalized. \nProcess off-cycle, manual and final paychecks in line with state final-pay requirements. \nRespond to employee and manager payroll questions promptly and accurately. \nPayroll tax registration and reconciliation \nOwn state and local payroll tax registrations, including new account setups, rate updates and agency correspondence. \nReconcile payroll tax filings and payments against payroll registers and agency records each pay period and quarter. \nResearch and resolve tax notices, penalties and account discrepancies. \nSupport Q4 and year-end close, including W-2 preparation and review. \nRippling payroll implementation \nAssist with pay runs during the transition, including any parallel runs between UKG and Rippling. \nHelp gather, validate and map data for migration, such as employee records, earnings and deduction codes, tax setups and year-to-date balances. \nTest payroll results in Rippling and reconcile them against UKG output. \nHelp document new payroll processes and controls for the team. \nKeep registrations up to date in both UKG and Rippling. \nIn January, work on the transition of POA and TPA to Rippling. \nFormer entity termination \nHelp close out the former entity in each operating state, including payroll tax account closures and final filings. \nWork with Finance on payment remittances to tax agencies and other payees tied to the former entity. \nTrack closure status by state and escalate open items or risks. \nRippling spend& travel \nBe responsible for the corporate card program, including issuing new and replacement cards, cancelling cards, and booking journal entries for card transactions \nProcess biweekly expense reimbursements to employees \nManage a shared inbox for employee inquiries about expense reimbursements, corporate cards, and travel \nMiscellaneous \nAssist with additional projects and reporting as needed \nRespond to and manage all inquiries in a timely and professional manner, ensuring accuracy of information \nDemonstrate passion for excellence in providing the best customer experience \nRequired qualifications \n5-10 years of progressive payroll experience, including end-to-end processing for 500+ employees \nHands-on experience running payroll in UKG (UKG Pro). \nMulti-state payroll experience, including state and local tax registration, filings and reconciliation. \nStrong knowledge of federal, state and local payroll regulations, including final-pay rules. \nProven ability to reconcile payroll registers, tax filings and general ledger entries. \nProficiency in MS Windows and Office suite \nAdvanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) for audits and reconciliations. \nHigh attention to detail, sound judgment with confidential data and the ability to meet fixed payroll deadlines. \nExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written \nAbility to handle multiple tasks and change direction based on business needs \nComfortable working across multiple systems \nHigh level of ownership, accountability and initiative \nPreferred qualifications \nBachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other related field \nCertified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) \nExperience with Rippling or other similar payroll systems \nExperience closing out an entity, including payroll tax account closures across multiple states \nYear-end payroll experience, including W-2 processing \nExperience overseeing a corporate card program and their online portals, such as Rippling, Amex, or JPMorgan PaymentNet \nExperience processing expense reimbursements with an expense reimbursement system, such as Rippling or Expensify \nExperience managing a company travel system, such as Rippling or Concur \nExperience managing a team or direct report \nBenefits Package \nYour well-being is our top priority.
