With nearly 300 retail locations, we proudly employ nearly 30,000 team members.\nWe have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Database Administrator to join our IT team in Langley, BC.\nReporting to the Manager, Database Admin, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization's enterprise database environment, ensuring the reliability and performance of systems that support critical business functions.\nIn this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert within a complex enterprise environment, leveraging your expertise in Oracle database administration, performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery to support mission-critical business systems and drive continuous improvement across the database landscape.\n You will be responsible for:\nProviding direct level 2 and 3 database support for development, QA, and production environments running on various versions of Oracle (19c or above, RAC, Exadata), MS SQL Server (SQL 2005-2022), PostgreSQL and MySQL.\n\nProviding all aspects of database support for Azure based database infrastructure.\n\nResearching, recommending, and executing improvements to database environments to maximize efficiency, reliability, and performance.\n\nPerforming database tuning and configuration to ensure optimum performance across all client databases.\n\nPlanning and implementing database upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.\n\nUsing native and/or external tools, such as Oracle’s Enterprise Manager and SQL Server DMVs, to quickly pinpoint trouble spots and resolve performance issues.\n\nDesigning and maintaining database backup and recovery strategies, including long term retention strategies, redundancy plans, and backup encryption.\n\nCollaborating with internal teams (Architecture, Development and Infrastructure) to develop database systems for new products or enhancements to existing systems.\n\nSharing domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and training to peers and team members.\n\nProviding expert level ETL and scripting to existing and new processes.\n\nDeveloping and maintaining server and database documentation.\n\nProviding on-call support outside of working hours for business-critical systems as required.\n\nYou have:\nA bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent work experience\n\n10+ years of progressive IT experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a Database Administrator role supporting mission-critical production environments, high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and database lifecycle management.\n\nProven experience managing Enterprise database platforms and infrastructure within Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.\n\nExperience with Oracle: 19c and above in an enterprise RAC environment.\n\nExperience with MS-SQL: 2008/2008 R2/2012/2014/2019/2022.\n\nExperience with Oracle and MS SQL server high availability technology.\n\nExpert knowledge in Transact SQL and PL/SQL.\n\nStrong understanding of database structures, principles, and best practices.\n\nStrong analytical skills for troubleshooting incidents and performing root cause analysis.\n\nWorking knowledge of database table partitioning techniques and processes.\n\nA good understanding of database encryption technologies and best practices.\n\nA solid understanding of operating system, Active Directory, and Network technologies.\n\nKnowledge of Spark, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, Databricks, Azure, NoSQL, Snowflake, and Distributed systems are considered assets.\n\nOracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification is considered an asset.\n\nYou are:\nA strong communicator and effective cross-functional partner.\n\nDetail-oriented and committed to delivering reliable, secure, and high-performing solutions.\n\nAn analytical problem solver with strong troubleshooting skills.\n\nHighly organized and able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.\n\nWhat we offer:\nIn addition to a highly competitive salary, we offer a great range of benefits, a company pension plan, free parking, exclusive team member offers, and opportunities for development and career progression.\nIf you’re looking to join a team that puts people first, you’re in the right place.
