About the role:
We are looking for a Payments & Reconciliation professional to own end-to-end payment reconciliation across internal systems, payment gateways, banking partners, settlement files, and merchant reports. The role will drive accuracy, controls, and turnaround time for high-volume payment operations, partner closely with finance and operations stakeholders, and strengthen automation and exception handling across the reconciliation lifecycle.
Expectations / Requirements:
Manage end-to-end payment reconciliation by validating transaction records across internal systems, payment gateways, banking partners, settlement files, and merchant reports
Perform high-volume data reconciliation by analysing large transaction datasets and identifying mismatches, pending settlements, duplicate transactions, and financial exceptions
Handle chargeback reconciliation end to end - monitor disputed transactions, track the chargeback lifecycle, validate reversal entries, and ensure accurate accounting adjustments and recovery
Monitor and analyse Payment Gateway (PG) costs, including MDR charges, transaction processing fees, bank charges, and gateway settlement fees; identify opportunities for cost optimisation
Support finance and accounting operations by validating transaction postings, tracking pending receivables, managing refund accounting, merchant payout reconciliation, and balance-sheet reconciliation activities
Work extensively with SQL for extracting, validating, and analysing large transactional datasets; write complex queries for reconciliation checks, exception reporting, and data validation
Utilise Python for data processing, reconciliation automation, large-scale data analysis, report generation, data cleansing, exception identification, and reducing manual operational effort
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports along with reconciliation dashboards for finance, operations, and management to support decision-making and audit readiness
Collaborate with banking partners, payment gateway providers, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve operational issues and improve payment processing efficiency
Drive process automation and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing manual effort, improving reconciliation TAT, strengthening financial controls, and minimising operational risk
Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, audit requirements, accounting standards, and operational risk management processes related to payments, settlements, and transaction reconciliation
Superpowers / Skills that will help you succeed in this role:
6-10 years of hands-on experience in payment / bank / portfolio reconciliation in BFSI, fintech, payments, or similar high-volume environments
Strong working knowledge of SQL for data extraction, reconciliation, and exception reporting
Working knowledge of Python for data processing / automation (preferred)
Comfort with high-volume transaction data, settlement files, chargebacks, and exception handling
Exposure to MDR / PG cost analysis, merchant payouts, refund accounting, or settlement operations is a plus
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, ownership of SLA / TAT, and clear stakeholder communication
Hands-on with Excel / MIS / dashboards; ability to partner with banks, PG providers, and internal finance teams
