Assists with the preparation of permit applications, material testing, surveying, construction staking, drawing preparation, and computer aided design (CAD) work.\nResponsibilities\nAssesses feasibility and soundness of proposed site civil and development features.\nPrepares engineering analysis, design, calculations, drawing and reports for a portion or all of a project under the direction of Project Engineers.\nWorks with dynamic design teams including landscape architects, land use planners, attorneys, owners, and facility managers.\nPerforms construction assistance related tasks including responding to RFI (Request for Information), visiting job sites, reviewing submittals, and coordinating with design team for revisions.\nAssists with the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day to day correspondences.\nPrepares land use plans for review, permit applications, analyze zoning ordinances for plan compliance.\nResearches code issues and work with City, State, and County officials.\nAttends and participates in project meetings.\nStays current on legal and industry regulations.\nPerforms other related duties or responsibilities, as assigned or requested. \nMay assist in performing survey, geotechnical testing, constructions materials testing tasks.\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nQualifications\nFormal Education, Licenses and Certifications\nBachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.\nMichigan E.I.T. | F.E. certification or in the process of obtaining certification.\nMust possess a valid driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.\nKnowledge and Experience\n0-3 years of relevant civil engineering internships/experience- preferability in an environment that performs site layout, grading, sewer and other utility design, pavement design, permitting, budgeting, jurisdictional agency interaction, and other related project activities.\nUnderstanding of basic civil engineering principles, theories and methods.\nExperience using AutoCAD preferred but not required.\nWorking knowledge of typical computer software programs used for civil engineering design and management (Microsoft Office, etc.)\nCompetencies and Personal Attributes\nSelf-motivated and responsible.\nAbility to make engineering design computations and check, design, and prepare engineering plans and studies.\nAbility to learn and apply city engineering policies and procedures.\nAbility to learn applicable laws and regulatory codes related to areas of assigned responsibility.\nAbility to learn to prepare, understand and interpret engineering site plans, specifications and other related documents.\nAble to follow directions from a supervisor and accept constructive criticism.\nEffective written and verbal communication is necessary.\nAbility to work on several projects concurrently, prioritize work load and cope with tight timelines to meet all deadlines without compromising quality.\nProficient with the use of computers including spreadsheets, word processing, engineering software and ability to prepare electronic design calculation documents.\nAbility to work collaboratively on a project team.\nAbility to manage time effectively and demonstrates good time-management skills.\nExcellent problem-solving skills; complete assigned tasks efficiently and exercise sound engineering judgment.\nStrong attention to detail and has an aptitude for noticing small errors on engineering designs. Prepare plans and drawings neatly and accurately.\nPhysical Demands\nThe physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some outdoor work is required in the survey, inspection and testing at various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers and various pieces of office equipment.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.\nAvailability\nThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and overtime as required.\nTravel\nTravel will be required to respective job sites and is primarily local during the business day.
