Assists with the preparation of permit applications, material testing, surveying, construction staking, drawing preparation, and computer aided design (CAD) work.\nResponsibilities\nPrepares engineering analysis, design, calculations, and reports for a portion or all of a project for review by a Project Manager.\nOversees geotechnical drilling in the field and collects samples based on project requirements.\nAssigns, performs, and oversees lab testing and prepares geotechnical reports with recommendations.\nEvaluates site soil conditions on construction projects and provides recommendations.\nPrepares permit applications with local and state entities.\nCoordinate utility clearance prior to geotechnical drilling.\nWorks with dynamic design teams including landscape architects, land use planners, attorneys, owners, and facility managers.\nPerforms construction assistance related tasks including reviewing concrete and asphalt mix designs, visiting job sites, reviewing technicians’ daily reports, and coordinating with contractors, clients and owners.\nAssists with the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, technical specifications, and reports, including day to day correspondences.\nAttends and participates in project meetings.\nStays current on legal and industry regulations.\nMay assist in performing survey and construction materials testing tasks.\nParticipates in continuing education / career advancement training.\nPerforms other related duties or responsibilities as assigned.\nQualifications\nFormal Education, Licenses and Certifications\nBachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.\nMichigan E.I.T. | F.E. certification or in the process of obtaining certification.\nMust possess a valid driver's license or can obtain one prior to employment.\nKnowledge and Experience\n0-3 years of relevant civil engineering internships/experience- preferability in geotechnical engineering.\nUnderstanding of basic geotechnical engineering principles, theories and methods.\nExperience using AutoCAD preferred but not required.\nWorking knowledge of typical computer software programs used for civil engineering design and management (Microsoft Office, etc.)\nCompetencies and Personal Attributes\nSelf-motivated, responsible and reliable.\nAbility to make engineering design computations and check, design, and provide technical recommendations.\nAbility to learn to prepare, understand and interpret engineering site plans, specifications, and other related documents.\nAble to follow directions from a supervisor and accept constructive criticism.\nEffective written and verbal communication is necessary.\nAbility to work on several projects concurrently, prioritize workload and cope with tight timelines to meet all deadlines without compromising quality.\nProficient with the use of computers including spreadsheets, word processing, engineering software and ability to prepare electronic design calculation documents.\nAbility to work collaboratively on a project team.\nAbility to manage time effectively and demonstrates good time-management skills.\nExcellent problem-solving skills; complete assigned tasks efficiently and exercise sound engineering judgment.\nStrong attention to detail and has aptitude for noticing errors on engineering designs.\nPhysical Demands\nThe physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The other half will be outdoors work year-round at sites including raw land developments, construction sites, roadways or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate CAD, computers and various pieces of office equipment.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.\nAvailability\nThis is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and overtime as required.\nTravel\nTravel will be required to respective job sites and is primarily local during the business day.
