The platform combines modern and legacy systems with ongoing work across platform modernisation, service resilience, API-first integration, cloud-native delivery, candidate and proctor experience, and stronger developer and operational practices.\nAs Lead Specialist, Solution Architect, you will provide technical direction across multiple engineering teams rather than sit within a single squad. You will translate business needs and technical constraints into practical architecture, guide delivery from discovery through implementation, and help teams resolve complex integration and build challenges.\nThis role suits an architect who combines deep Java and cloud-native expertise with clear judgement, hands-on credibility and the ability to influence without formal authority.\nWhat You’ll Do\nOwn solution architecture from discovery and design through implementation and production adoption.\nTranslate business needs, constraints and technical requirements into secure, scalable and maintainable designs.\nSet technical direction across squads and maintain consistency across the wider OnVUE solution footprint.\nGuide engineering teams through implementation while preserving architectural intent.\nEvaluate trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security, maintainability, integration risk and business value.\nResolve complex architecture, integration and build issues, escalating decisions outside the assigned scope.\nEstablish repeatable technical patterns and ensure conformance with architecture standards.\nMentor engineers and architects and communicate recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nProgressive experience in software engineering, solution architecture or a related technical discipline.\nStrong Java enterprise architecture experience, including Spring and Spring Boot.\nWorking architecture experience across front-end and back-end technologies, including Angular.\nCloud-platform experience, preferably Azure; strong AWS experience is also relevant.\nKubernetes, containers, orchestration and cloud-native delivery experience.\nExperience designing and scaling reliable, distributed applications and maintaining operational health.\nStrong third-party integration, API and service-integration experience.\nEvidence of leading technical decisions across multiple teams without relying on formal authority.\nStrong communication, facilitation, documentation and mentoring skills.\nExperience with LLMs, machine learning, video/audio/image processing or desktop products is helpful but not essential.\nLocation & Working Pattern\nUnited States. Remote within the United States. Any state restrictions or travel expectations will be shared during the recruitment process.\nCompensation\nCompensation at Pearson is influenced by factors including skill set, experience, and location.\nThe full-time salary range for this role is $150,000 - $160,000.
