Also known in the market as: Engineering Manager; Software Development Manager; Technology Manager; Software Engineering People Manager.\nAbout the Role\nPearson is hiring two Software Engineering Team Managers in India through one recruitment campaign. The roles share a common leadership profile but support different product areas: Vue Testing Services (VTS) and Test Delivery.\nVTS supports services around a candidate’s assessment journey, including registration, payment and score reporting. Test Delivery powers the delivery of assessments in test centres and online, in a high-volume environment where quality, reliability and operational readiness matter.\nIn either opportunity, you will lead through clarity, coaching, accountability and partnership. You will translate priorities into achievable plans, strengthen engineering and delivery practices, develop people, manage risk and help teams adopt AI-assisted development responsibly. This is a management role with minimal hands-on coding expected.\nWhat You’ll Do\nHire, onboard, coach, develop and retain engineers and technical professionals.\n\nSet clear goals, feedback rhythms, development plans and team operating practices.\n\nTranslate product and department priorities into achievable team plans, capacity choices and ownership.\n\nTrack sprint and release progress, dependencies, blockers, defects, quality and immediate delivery risks.\n\nPartner with Product, Architecture, Quality Engineering, DevOps, Security, Operations and business stakeholders.\n\nMaintain strong standards for design, testing, automation, security, observability, documentation and operational readiness.\n\nUse engineering, delivery, quality and team signals to identify patterns and drive improvement.\n\nGuide deliberate adoption of AI-assisted development, testing, review and documentation while protecting quality and security.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\nA hands-on technical foundation in software engineering, quality engineering, architecture, technology solutions or a closely related discipline.\n\nDemonstrated experience leading, coaching or managing technical professionals and building effective teams.\n\nExperience delivering software products, platforms or technology services in Agile or similarly iterative environments.\n\nEvidence of leading meaningful change, making sound decisions and improving delivery or team effectiveness.\n\nWorking knowledge of modern software delivery, cloud, DevOps, CI/CD, automation, security, reliability, observability and operational readiness.\n\nExperience making people, capacity, priority and delivery decisions in a cross-functional environment.\n\nExperience working across distributed teams, functions or time zones.\n\nPractical experience using or introducing AI-assisted engineering tools, with sound judgement about quality and risk.\n\nStrong communication, collaboration, problem-solving and stakeholder-influence skills.\n\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent practical experience.\n\nThe Opportunities\nVTS Lead teams supporting services around the assessment journey, including registration, payment and score reporting. Product and service-platform leadership experience may be particularly useful.\nTEST DELIVERY Lead teams supporting the delivery of assessments in test centres and online. Experience with high-volume, operationally critical or reliability-focused platforms may be particularly useful.\nLocation & Working Pattern\nIndia. Bangalore is the preferred location and Chennai is an option.
