The Data Foundations project establishes the trusted data platform, ownership model, migration path, and engineering operating model needed to make this data reliable, secure, accessible, and usable for analytics, operational reporting, interoperability, and future AI-enabled product capabilities. This role is accountable for leading the engineering execution required to modernize that foundation while protecting continuity for current platform consumers.\nWe are modernizing a platform that today runs primarily on legacy .NET Frameworks: IIS-based ASP.NET WebFormsand MVC, an AngularJS and jQuery front end, and SQL Server. The future is design-system-based React and TypeScript single-page applications calling .NET REST services that operate in containerized modern .NET, and integrate with an API-first, event-driven model on AWS with externalized authorization. Your teams will work on both sides of this technology, the legacyand the new.\nThe platform is becoming agentic across every exposed product area, not only in the teamswhose names say AI. That changes what an engineering manager is accountable for. Wherever your team's surface reaches a student, a family, a teacher, or school staff, you own the guardrails, the human-in-the-loop fallback, the disclosure, and the evidence that the behavior was evaluated before release. That obligation does not vary by team.\nYou are expected to be AI-native in how you manage. That means you can review work produced by engineers operating at our bar for AI-fluent engineering, understand the role and limits of evaluation sets, and treat quality as a release gate rather than a late-stage phase.\nKey Responsibilities\nTeam Delivery and Operating Rhythm\nOwn planning, prioritization, and delivery commitments for your team, and the operating rhythm that makes progress visible without a status meeting\n\nAllocate people to work, manage escalations, and resolve blockers quickly and transparently\n\nRecommend and land process improvements rather than escalating the same friction twice\n\nHolding the Shape of the Team\nHire against our bar for AI-fluent engineering, and hold it when the pipeline is thin\n\nAgentic Capability and Duty of Care\nTreat every exposed product surface as one that will carry agentic capability, and apply the same obligations whether or notthe team's name says AI\n\nRequire an evaluation set with a stated pass bar, wired into the release gate, before model-backed behavior reaches a student\n\nEnsure guardrails, human-in-the-loop fallback, escalation, and disclosure are designed into the interaction rather than added after a complaint\n\nMonitor reliability, hallucination, and model performance against stated thresholds, and treat drift as a defect rather than as news\n\nQuality, Adoption, and Shared Tooling\nHold specification-first practice: contract-level tests before the implementation, negative tests as a first-class obligation, and evals wherever behavior is model-backed\n\nEnsure the automated merge gates run and are not routinely overridden, and treat a suite that never fails as a defect rather than a result\n\nDrive the team's contribution to the governed shared library, so skills, MCP servers, evaluation suites, and golden datasets leave the team rather than staying in it\n\nPeople and Capability\nCoach capability deliberately, so the team's ceiling rises rather than its hours\n\nRun performance and development conversations on a rhythm, not only at review time\n\nBuild succession inside the team, so no specialization sits with exactly one person\n\nDomain Depth for This Posting\nLead the overall engineering delivery for Data Foundations, including roadmap execution, platform readiness, migration sequencing, cutover planning, dependency management, and coordination across source systems, downstream consumers, and partner teams\n\nSet expectations for data contracts, quality gates, lineage, observability, access controls, operational readiness, and support ownership across the data domains the team manages\n\nPartner closely with Product, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, Solution Architecture, Security, Compliance, our DevOps and SRE platform team, and vendor teams to align delivery priorities, resolve dependencies, and protect continuity during modernization\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n4+ years managing engineers who ship to production, including hiring, performance, and development\n\nA working engineering background, enough to review a technical decision and to be credible with engineers operating at our bar for AI-fluent engineering\n\nExperience delivering a model-backed or agentic capability to real users, including how it was evaluated before release and monitored afterward\n\nPracticed at holding a quality gate under delivery pressure, and able to describe a time you held one and a time you should have\n\nExperience managing across a legacy and a target platform at the same time, where the team cannot stop shipping on either\n\nComfortable managing a distributed team across time zones, with the written discipline that requires\n\nExperience in regulated or privacy-sensitive environments; K-12 and FERPA exposure an advantage\n\nRelevant degree or equivalent practical experience\n\nSkills and Experience\nThe skills and experiencethis role isassessed against.\nCore skills\nAdaptability\n\nArtificial Intelligence\n\nLearning to Learn\n\nEngineering fundamentals\nCollaboration\n\nInformation Security\n\nInnovation\n\nProblem Solving\n\nTechnical Acumen\n\nRole-specific skills\nAPI Management\n\nCloud Computing\n\nData Security\n\nDevOps\n\nEthical Responsibility\n\nResilience Planning\n\nSoftware Design\n\nEmerging skills\nAI Agents\n\nAutomated Artificial Intelligence (AutoAI)\n\nSpecialist depth for this role\nLarge Language Models (LLMs)\n\nGenerative AI\n\nEvaluation of AI-Generated Content Quality\n\nPerformance Management\n\nCode Review\n\nOverseeing delivery of AI-enabled capabilities and holding the release gate\n\nMeasuring and reporting team adoption of AI tooling\n\nBuilding reusable engineering tooling and evaluation suites that other teams adopt\n\nData foundation, integration, and migration oversight\n\nReliability, observability, and test discipline","description_format":"text","description_chars":6266,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":4,"management_years_min":4,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["EdTech Platforms","Publishing","E-learning"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-19T13:19:11Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":63,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.632,"p_room":1,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":26,"reasons":["conf:2","stale_co","velocity","win:early","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-22T06:10:10Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/pearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/pearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-22T18:19:04Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":901,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-23T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":34029},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=34029"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fpearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fpearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fpearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/pearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fpearson-software-engineering-team-manager-6"}]}
