It sounds like a lot of data and analytics, but really, it’s about improving the world and keeping safe the places we call home.\nAs a Database Engineer, you will be responsible for working within a software engineering team to design and develop software solutions utilizing an Oracle database backend. You’ll be creating new relational database models, improving, and extending existing models, and writing queries and stored procedures in collaboration with other database engineers. You will be responsible for making decisions on partitioning, indexing, and structure to ensure the product performs optimally and reliably under demanding and diverse use cases.\nLOCATION: this is a hybrid opportunity with the requirement to commute to the Lincoln office twice a week.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nDesign and implement moderately complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures to support product features and reporting needs. \nOptimize existing database structures, queries, and indexes to improve performance, reliability, and scalability. \nPerform regular data quality checks and resolve data integrity issues across systems. \nSupport application developers by advising on data access patterns, query design, and schema usage. \nContribute to relational data modeling decisions, including table design, relationships, and constraints. \nParticipate in code reviews for database changes and uphold team coding standards and documentation practices. \nInvestigate and resolve database-related defects, escalating complex issues with clear analysis when needed. \nMaintain thorough documentation of schemas, procedures, and changes. \nMentor and support Database Engineer I team members on day-to-day tasks and tools. \nAll other duties as the business requires\nRequirements\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. \nOracle or PostgreSQL certification recommended. \n2-5 years of relevant database engineering experience. \nAdvanced SQL skills, including query optimization and stored procedure development. \nSolid understanding of relational data modeling, normalization, and schema design. \nExperience with indexing strategies and diagnosing performance bottlenecks. \nProactive troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks. \nStrong collaboration skills and the ability to support developers across teams. \nDisciplined approach to documentation and change management. \nHands-on experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL in a production environment. \nFamiliarity with partitioning, query execution plans, and database monitoring tools. \nExperience supporting data-intensive or analytics-heavy applications. \nThis position currently follows a hybrid schedule requiring two days per week in our Lincoln, Nebraska office.
