This role works cross-functionally with R&D, Operations, Quality, and Packaging to ensure formulations are scalable, compliant, and aligned with production capabilities.\nThis position is responsible for executing product development activities from benchtop through commercialization, supporting plant trials, and contributing to continuous product improvement through technical expertise and collaboration.\nResponsibilities and Expectations\nDevelop and formulate new products and line extensions across powders and bar applications\n\nCreate benchtop and pilot-scale samples for internal evaluation, customer review, and lab testing\n\nBuild bulk samples to support stability, sensory, and analytical testing\n\nSupport product scale-up activities, including bar trials and production runs\n\nAssist in troubleshooting product and process issues during development and commercialization\n\nCollaborate with Operations to evaluate how formulations perform on production equipment; provide recommendations for improvements\n\nAssist in building and validating production targets to align R&D and manufacturing outputs\n\nReview batch sheets to confirm alignment with formulation, label claims, and quality standards\n\nConduct and support shelf-life and stability testing programs\n\nSupport label review activities for R&D, ensuring alignment between formulation, claims, and regulatory requirements\n\nCreate and maintain Nutrition Facts Panels (NFPs) and Supplement Facts Panels (SFPs) for new and existing products\n\nEvaluate raw material documentation (COAs, specifications, allergen statements) to support compliance and formulation accuracy\n\nApply knowledge of ingredient functionality, macro composition, potency, and overages in formulation development\n\nCollaborate with the Packaging Engineer on packaging validation and testing to support product integrity and shelf-life performance\n\nMaintain accurate documentation of formulations, trials, and results within internal systems\n\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or related field\n\n5+ years of experience in product development within food, beverage, or dietary supplement manufacturing\n\nExperience with powdered products and/or nutritional bars\n\nWorking knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, and PPE requirements\n\nExperience supporting product scale-up from benchtop to production\n\nTechnical Skills & Knowledge\nStrong understanding of:\nNutritional macros and ingredient functionality\n\nPotency, overages, and formulation accuracy\n\nFood and dietary supplement labeling regulations (FDA compliant)\n\nAbility to review and interpret:\nRaw material specifications and technical documents\n\nCertificates of Analysis (COAs)\n\nBasic understanding of packaging fundamentals, including material compatibility and shelf-life impact\n\nAbility to identify and help resolve formulation and processing challenges in a production environment\n\nSystems & Tools\nProficiency in:\nMicrosoft Outlook\n\nSmartsheet\n\nMicrosoft SharePoint\n\nGenesis R&D (or similar formulation software)\n\nCore Competencies\nStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills\n\nDetail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance\n\nAbility to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced environment\n\nEffective cross-functional communication and collaboration\n\nHands-on, team-oriented approach with a willingness to support plant activities\n\nPreferred Experience\nExperience in a contract manufacturing (co-man) environment\n\nExposure to customer-facing product development processes\n\nExperience with functional ingredients, sports nutrition, or specialty formulations\n\nScope of Products\nPowdered beverages\n\nPowdered dietary supplements\n\nNutritional and functional bars\n\nWork Environment:\nThis position is on the manufacturing floor almost constantly.
