POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Extension seeks an innovative and energetic Extension Educator with a passion for positive youth development to support and expand Pennsylvania 4-H Healthy Living initiatives, including the statewide Health Rocks program. 4-H utilizes hands-on activities to foster critical thinking, leadership development, and community engagement. Programs are delivered through non-formal settings, such as 4-H clubs, camps, school enrichment, and after-school programs. Volunteers play an important role in the success of these endeavors, serving as club leaders, coaches and mentors. This position is based at Penn State Extension, Armstrong County, Kittanning, PA.

The individual in this position works as a representative of The Pennsylvania State University in the delivery of the Pennsylvania 4-H Statewide Health Rocks (HR) program, as determined by the National 4-H Council grant, and the 4-H Statewide Healthy Living program (85%). This includes supporting the Health Rocks Statewide Coordinator on meeting the grant deliverables, supporting county-level programs delivered by county 4-H staff and volunteers, building community collaborations and partnerships, developing a revenue enhancement portfolio, and creating a professional development plan. This position also supports local 4-H programming (15%) in Armstrong County.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Implement Healthy Living educational programs, materials, and activities as part of the Pennsylvania 4-H program's overall efforts, specifically Health Rocks.

  • Maintain regular communication with Extension staff and the Health Rocks Statewide Coordinator regarding training opportunities, grant reporting, program updates, and educational resources.

  • Coordinate Health Rocks resources for 4-H staff, including HR Teacher kits, Healthy Me kits, and HR Vaping Prevention kits as well as providing necessary training and implementation resources.

  • Assist with virtual and in-person Health Rock training for Extension staff, teachers, and volunteers.

  • Collect and analyze program data to document outcomes, demonstrate positive youth development impacts, and support program sustainability.

  • Build partnerships and collaborations with county educators and schools to support the educational mission of the 4-H Healthy Living program.

  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers and program partners to strengthen local and statewide 4-H Healthy Living programming.

  • Foster relationships and develop partnerships with other youth-serving groups, schools, or organizations to expand the reach and impact of 4-H Health Rocks and Healthy Living programs.

  • Implement program evaluation, documentation, and reporting.

  • Support local 4-H programming, such as school enrichment in Armstrong County.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Programs and Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidate should possess teaching, program development, and evaluation skills, and demonstrate positive human relations and effective communication skills necessary to work effectively with youth, parents, leaders, government officials, and the general public.

  • The candidate must be able to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.

  • Candidate must also be willing to work flexible hours.

  • Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, the ability to work effectively with people from varied backgrounds, and a commitment to the principles of diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in youth development, social sciences, communication, education, nutrition, community development, leadership or a closely related field and experience with 4-H programs.

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $44,628.00 - $64,668.00.
