Working within System Operations team, you'll be responsible for administering and optimising enterprise databases including SQL Server, PostgresSQL and Azure SQL database supporting business critical applications and data platforms across the bank. This role partners closely with the Data & Insights team and other Technology & Transformation stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing database solutions that enable operational excellence and data-driven decision-making. You'll balance day-to-day operational support with project delivery, contributing to infrastructure modernisation, automation initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.\nKey Responsibilities\nAdminister, maintain, and optimise enterprise database platforms including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Azure SQL Database. \nMonitor database performance, capacity, availability, and health to ensure resilient and scalable services. \nDesign and implement database security controls, backup strategies, disaster recovery solutions, and high-availability architectures. \nCollaborate with the Data & Insights team to support ETL processes, reporting requirements, and data optimisation initiatives. \nTroubleshoot and resolve complex database issues while working closely with application, infrastructure, vendor, and managed service provider teams. \nSupport database upgrades, lifecycle management activities, and the implementation of new technologies and enhancements. \nDrive automation and continuous improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency and service reliability. \nProvide expertise in SQL development, query optimisation, indexing, schema design, and database best practices. \nContribute to project delivery by ensuring database solutions are secure, supportable, compliant, and performance-optimised. \nMaintain accurate technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures while supporting disaster recovery testing and on-call activities.\nAbout you:\nIn this role, you'll be trusted to maintain high levels of database availability, integrity, and performance while proactively identifying and mitigating risks. You'll build strong partnerships across Technology & Transformation, support business-critical initiatives, and be recognised as a reliable and collaborative technical expert\nEssential Experience & Skills\nStrong experience administering and supporting SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Azure SQL Database environments. \nExpertise in database design, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security management. \nExperience with high-availability architectures, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery strategies. \nKnowledge of ETL processes and Business Intelligence platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or QlikView. \nExperience working with cloud database platforms, including Azure and AWS RDS. \nStrong SQL development skills, including query optimisation and stored procedures. \nExcellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities. \nStrong stakeholder engagement, communication, and documentation skills. \nKnowledge of security and regulatory frameworks including ISMS, Essential 8, CPS 234 and CPS 230.\nWhy you’ll love working with us:\nPeople First Bank - our new brand - says exactly what we’re all about: people.
