Data Center Engineer

Responsibilities

Peraton supports the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mission to deliver timely, reliable care and benefits to America's Veterans by engineering, operating, and modernizing a nationwide data center portfolio. Our team runs enterprise and regional data centers, telecommunications spaces, and secure network connections that host the systems Veterans depend on - from claims processing and pharmacy fulfillment to appointment scheduling and benefits delivery. We provide full-lifecycle data center and cloud engineering, 24×7×365 operations and monitoring, DCIM platform administration, analytics, and facility infrastructure reporting. Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, evaluate, and support data center infrastructure across compute, racks, power, cooling, cabling, capacity, and equipment deployments.
• Contribute to site assessments and produce Site Visit / Assessment Reports for VA facilities.
• Support design reviews, from conceptual through issued-for-construction, and respond to VA comments within committed turn times.
• Maintain configuration management materials - cable schedules, rack elevations, floor plans, labeling matrices - for supported facilities.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Currently possess or be able to obtain VA Public Trust - High Risk (BI High) / Tier 4 background investigation.
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related field; 5+ years of data center or comparable enterprise infrastructure engineering experience.
• Education substitutions (per Peraton Career & Compensation Framework): Master's degree substitutes ~2 years of required experience; Ph.D. substitutes ~5 years of required experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience is acceptable (Associate's degree + 2 additional years also accepted for equivalent professional levels).

Desired Skills, Tools & Certifications

• Tools: Data center monitoring and management tools including Nlyte Asset Optimizer / Energy Optimizer (DCIM), ServiceNow (ITSM/CMDB), SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, PuTTY, Wireshark, PowerShell, Python, Power BI, MS Visio, and SharePoint. AutoCAD and Visio for infrastructure drawings.
• Processes: ITIL v4 service management, SAFe Agile / Scrum for iterative delivery, NIST 800-53 / RMF, ISO 27001, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC 9.9, VA CRISP alignment, NFPA 70/70E, and OSHA safety practices.; TIA-942, VA Handbook 7002.
• Certifications (desirable): PE (Electrical or Mechanical), BICSI RCDD, Uptime Institute ATD/ATS, EPI CDCP/CDCS/CDCE, LEED AP, CEM. plus ITIL v4 Foundation (Practitioner/Managing Professional a plus), SAFe Practitioner or SAFe DevOps.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
